Wrong. There’s more money to be made giving a free room to a high roller than selling that same room to a redneck that’s going to play $5 blackjack for an hour.
It all depends on the casino. Some casinos don't really have high rollers who are looking to get a free room at that specific casino. If we are talking about the Bellagio and they offering a "high roller" a presidential suite or something that's a different story, but if we are talking about L'Auberge in Baton Rouge, the people who are are being comped are people who are members of their player's club, who has played enough to "earn" them.

My friend's mom says this all the time. "Free" hotel rooms, etc. About to file second bankruptcy, but yeah nice "free" stuff from casino.
You have either already paid for the room, or you are going to pay for in the future, no one has ever gotten a "free" room from a casino.

Interesting topic - so I have a question. Went to Vegas last year, gambled a decent amount, and won a nice chunk of change on a slot machine. I'm not a huge gambler or anything close to a high roller. I get a card in the mail about once a month offering a free 3 night stay at the Venetian/Palazzo. So what would happen if I took the offer? Do you get just hot-boxed to gamble by a bunch of goons the whole time? What if I just wanted to go see some shows and hardly gambled?

Nothing
Go have fun, do as you please.
Vegas is betting the bright lights, and party atmosphere will loosen you up.

Nothing happens. You're not obligated to gamble. Now, you may not get any more comps if you don't gamble.

However, more often than not, you call to make reservations with your comped room, and they have none available.
Clearly.

Exactly this. If you gamble, you’re likely to get more offers. Don’t gamble, you can kiss the offers goodbye, or they’ll send you discounts, but nothing free.

I understand your point, but if that’s the case, don’t comp the room.
