I understand that they are a business and are going to give rooms to paying customers first. However, more often than not, you call to make reservations with your comped room, and they have none available. They do have a room for $149, though.

How do casinos do this? Do they have a block of rooms for comped customers, and once they're gone, they're gone, or do they do it some other way?

I am by no means a high roller.

Pretty sure comped rooms are just a lie to you to make you feel better. They don’t actually plan to give you a free room

Gotta go on off weekends usually if you trying to use a comped room from your players card.

I've been comped on the spot in Tunica a few times because I was hammered in college and they didn't want us driving home

They use past data to predict weekends they'll be full of paying hotel guests and don't let people use comped rooms for those. Or they offer fewer.

Pretty simple.

In college we'd play the $5 blackjack tables and be basically even around 5 AM, give or take $30, and get a free breakfast after hours of free drinks. Always thought that was a win

I've gotten rooms comped before so it's not just a myth

This particular incident was for a Thursday night, though. Can't imagine being booked on a Thursday night in early August.

It's hit or miss. My SO gets comped at Winstar in Oklahoma. Once when we went to check-in we were told our comped room was at an off-site hotel. They had a shuttle which ran between the casino and the off-site hotel, but it was easier just to drive.

Don't know where you go, but I get mine every time, unless they are sold out. I do call fairly early in advance, though. Getting my comp room is never a problem. I've started booking on line a lot, too. How can they say "no" when the offer is right there in front of you in that case.

Lots of people treat Thursday as the first night of the weekend, especially on long weekends to the casino to spend their social security checks.

bullshite, my in laws go 2-3 times a month for free and they throw in free buffets. I have another buddy, who is a big time lawyer. A casino in LV comps his entire trip there including airfare. It's definitely a thing. I don't gamble enough to get it

Doesn’t exist to the extent it used to. Why? People will mortgage their right nut to go to these places.

Casinos know the comps are part of how they lure people, so they're not going to screw you on them. If they have them, they give them out.

The trick is playing "above the casino". In other words, play a game like video poker at 98 or better percent, then go to the casinos with the best offers at the right time. Pick the right one. If I can get 100 points on my card and get a free spin on a giant wheel at the front of the casino and know the worse I'll get is a free meal, then I'll go for it, instead of going to another casino where they are picking a chair every hour and giving one person (out of hundreds) a gift. The obvious win is the 100 points. I'm now playing at or above the casino.

If a casino is offering 15x points from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. one day, then I'll play there even over the 100 points. Maybe. Probably go do both ... Casinos have specials every single day. Choose wisely and go for the best one going on.

Of course you need to know how to play said game, such as video poker, at that clip of 98 or more percent. That's the thing. Only a few people actually know how to play the "thinking" games right.

If you play slots, they set them anywhere from 84 to 98 percent. It's not smart, but better than the lottery, for sure.

The have a minimal amount of basic comps rooms, if you're a regular or a high roller, they will make a room available to you for free almost regardless of the bookings.

I've had a room and a $600 dinner at Ruth's Chris comped the weekend of Endymion.

All I could think about was how much the person who got it comped must have lost over time with Harrah's.

I found the Marksville casino blows the big one now when it comes to any comps. Used to get all kinds. Now, lucky if I get a room at half price. Screw them now.

Yes, they have a bean counter that has cut back on everything. Ate up there last Saturday night. $30 a head and the food was like crap and cold. They didn't have anything out too!

yeah the only people getting comped rooms on a weekend are black card members (or whatever is the equivalent)

they can ALWAYS get a room, also. it ma not be comped, but if they want a room, they will get one
