That is correct and they only just came on station within the past few months.
The rust is even more infuriating considering it just came out of refit last year. And yes we spent countless hours chipping and painting the hull when we were in port.

One of my stepsons served on the Carl Vinson when he first got out of boot camp. We went to visit him in San Diego and that is all he was doing for about a year. Chipping and painting.
That was about 7 years ago.

If that's true, he's going to be busted and processed. I hope the tanker was unambiguously at fault, but still, the captain's ascent to admiral just isn't happening now. Yikes.

You are mistaken, the top brass is nominated by the president to fill a finite number of slots at each level. Obviously the Obama and Biden legacy appointments have been pretty liberal.

Where a ship is flagged has almost nothing to do with who actually owns it, where they are located and who the crew is.
