I bet the skipper was properly vaxxed and current on the dei training though. Who cares if he could navigate a ship?

Seems there should be an alarm going. Off when anything gets with in a certain range of the ship so they can warn it to stay clear.

Half of the bay boats around grand isle on any given day have this feature on them

A Nimitz class has a little better shite than Tboy's Blackjack does.

CO will be removed with 90% certainty unless it is without a doubt the other vessel"s fault. Navy doesn't fck around with collisions

He is done and it doesn't matter. They have a no tolerance policy for this type of thing.

Its a traffic jam of big arse ships around there. Truman may have well been in a situation where a wreck with this ship was the best possible course of action. CO will be Keel hauled anyway for getting in that position to start with.

Seems like a good reason to get Harry into port and give her a coat of rust converter and a freshy of gray paint. And maybe a new anchor, looks rusty too.

No shite....naval vessels are usually close to sinking with the additional weight of the gazzillion coats of marine enamel applied to them every minute of every day. That one is about to rust through at the waterline (obviously not but it is unsighthly).

Dang that ship needs PM and a paint job. Never seen one of our ships look so shabby. It's an embarrassment really.

This. I was on board the USS Kitty Hawk, affectionally known as the Shitty Kitty, and it never looked remotely this bad.

That is one nasty looking boat.

Absurd for one of our prides of the fleet to look that way

I was on the Belknap, but in the early 90s, became the 6th fleet flag ship.

“ gazillion coats of marine enamel applied to them”

I was never on a ship (Seabees),don’t they chip off old paint?
One of my neighbors was in the Navy, hated it.He said all he did for 3 years was chip paint on ships, painters would come behind.

I wonder if he was a frick up,if that’s all he did.I would have hated it too.

Too bad it wasn’t named the M/V America.

Yeah. Being a Marine I've spent my share of time on ships and I've never seen a commissioned ship look that bad. Our Captains would have had the crews head. It IS embarrassing. Maybe times have changed. Everything else has.

Hull paint might be less effective nowadays due to environment reasons.

Our warships rust to shite but at least we can all fee good about earth friendly paint.

Great job everybody.

Interesting thing I read in that article that you posted about the other collision in 1975, aircraft carriers have to be going at least 25 knots to launch planes and to 'recapture' them or whatever word was used... Why that is?

*ETA "recover" is the correct word.

Carriers stay deployed all the time now because of all the conflicts. No time to do depot level maintenance. Look at the deployed planes on videos they look like there going to fall out of the sky.
