dont forget the norovirus outbreaks from the buffets.
i was on carnival ship for a wedding in miami a few weeks back and everything smelled like bleach and there was a 'hand sani' station every 5 feet.

Exactly. Just rent a condo in Florida for the same price. You can booze as you like, eat when and where you like, and can't do whatever the hell you want. Only an Alaskan or European river cruise slightly interest me. When I'm in the tropics, I typically don't like to go more than 5 miles from where I'm staying, save for deep sea fishing.

Don't have time to chime in again, so I'll wait for the next Carnival Cruise is...the Walmart of the seas, white trash cruise line, etc thread next week.

At $15 + $10 shipping it negates the purpose of sneaking on alcohol to save money

Such a sad day. I think the first OT thread I ever read was on sneaking booze on in water bottles.
Since they banned weed on cruise ships, how do you guys sneak it on now?

Ziploc of 190 rolled into a tube and shoved into a magnum xl condom.
Hang it in the front and wait for the frisk.
"All me sexy." Line works better if it's a man.

They have rum runners for this purpose. Anyone trying to fill water bottles is a total amateur and not nearly trashy enough.
You can still bring your canned sodas and bottles of wine on board, though. They are also selling water for a very reasonable price, they adjusted the price of their 12 pack of bottled water that you can have delivered to your room from $13 to $3 So they made an effort to help out people who liked to bring on bottled water.

I would guess that they don't make a whole lot of money off the cost of the ticket to get on board.
It is actually pretty smart considering they had a revenue of 15.88 billion last year.
Where have you gone on vacation where the food is free and the alcohol is cheap or free and at the same time it is cheap to enter?

How many times has the word "trashy" been used in this thread?

In high school a guy I ran with put a 1/4 bag in his 3 year old brothers shoe while boarding the boat.

This thread is all kinds of AWESOME!
You've got trashy people trying to figure out ways to me even more trashy.
Then you've for trashy people thinking they're not trashy and bashing the extra trashy saying they're trashy for not buying drinks when being on a cruise is inherently trashy.
I <3 the OT!

How about they stop being a-holes and charging $8 for a beer and maybe people will be willing to buy the booze on the ship.
Well maybe if you want to pony up more than $499 for a 5 day trip, they could do that.
You do understand the concept that a business is in it to make money, right?
Do you understand that the ship you are on probably cost around $400,000,000 to build?
The loan on that has to be paid back...with interest.
That ship uses an assload of fuel cruising around the seas---$$$.
...and insurance, and staff, and crew, and food, and maids, and boat maintenance, and tariffs, and legal fees, and port fees, and on and on...
That all costs money.
Let's say you put 4000 people on a boat for a 4.5 day run at $499 a head...that is just under $2,000,000---or $444,444 a day.
I promise you that all the above stated expenses eat up all that money. They rely on things like alcohol, pay restaurants, Internet, photographs, etc. to make a profit.

Carnival sucks.
I wouldn't go if they gave free alcohol.

Just took an 8 day cruise on the Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas May 24th-31st. My husband purchased a drink card for $394.00 (including taxes and gratuities). Believe me, it is definitely worth it. Unlimited sodas, beer, wine, frozen and non frozen alcoholic drinks, etc... the entire 8 days.

Is that ship that leaves from the end of Canal Street a carnival cruise ship? If not, got to be just as trashy, amirite?
I watched some of those fat arse embarkees embark their fat asses up in that ship from the Weston's lobby on Memorial Day weekend - was checking them out with the ol' antique telescope in there - and thought to myself "damn I'm glad I'm not on that thing, where ever it's going."
It seriously looked like they'd randomly rounded up a buncha folks from either a Wal Mart in the worst neighborhood they could find, OR rounded up a big arse possy from the population that gets the free hotel rooms at Harrah's (yet they don't actually let them stay at Harrah's - they put them in the Double Tree across the street) and told them "y'all have 2 hours to pack/be downtown if you want to go. For free. Ya heard?"
I'm sorry - I just read what I wrote, and it for sure is the snobbiest, most high browed, nose turned up, better than thou post I've ever put on this board, for which I apologize none. The last freaking thing I want to see as I'm leaving for vacation is several hundred folks from the aforementioned crowd being lead into the relatively confined space that we'll all be sharing for next "x" days. NOT. FOR. ME.
It's likely while I'll never go on a cruise - I don't know where in the world to find a good one, and it seems like every time I turn around, another cruise ship is being stuck w/the trashy label. Those doing the labeling are on point, as well. Those things seem to be routinely in some type of hygienic or otherwise trashiness type crises. ..from breaking out with the damn ptomaine, or the sewerage backing up and everyone (I guess) having to take dumps over the side of bulkhead, to this quarantine/that quarantine. Shivers.......

Went on Carnival last April. Brought wine and smuggled some rum and vodka. Also brought some on from islands. Water bottle method is so old. Many easy ways to smuggle and free items in your house or from the DollarTree to do it with. No shampoo taste. If you can have fun on a cruise then you are doing it all wrong.

On my only cruise, many years ago, I slipped a whole case of 10 oz. Miller Lite cans in a suitcase. They wheeled it right to my room. I guess I was lucky.
The cruise was like being trapped in an infomercial with the staff always trying to sell me shite. I can still deliver the cruise director's pitch for Diamond's International.
I can't imagine how bad it would suck to work on ship. I talked to some girls from South Africa and Scotland who were working onboard. The Scotland girl said she signed on to travel and see the world. They had been sailing out of NOLA for months but never set foot in the French Quarter or anywhere else beyond the Riverwalk mall. Sad.
