Me too. Similar position. Your wife is right. You're young enough to take advantage of moving to another company and 15k a year is a big difference in pay. My employer lacks advancement at my current location so I'm looking at similar options including out of state. If you can get a supervisory position right now, take it because any other place is going to want you have some experience as a manager.

In short, take it.

That may be unattainable in today's market but I sincerely hope you find it

She would probably encourage you to make the move.

Your wife is correct. Do it and don't forget to "profit" between the sheets the night you tell her. Good luck!

In my experience and career, she’s right.

Keep in mind, “If you die, your job opening will be posted before your obituary.”

I find larger companies could care less about loyalty. It’s sad but it’s true. I watched a buddy dedicate 16 years to a company and get the axe in one of the worst ways possible. He was devastated and reflected back thinking about how much time and effort he spent and sacrifices he made where it didn’t mean jack at the end.

Job-hopping every 5 years is how you get the money. Nobody pays for loyalty anymore.

They’ll be looking to fire you in the next few years based on your age so I would get a move on. It’s actuarial. They can’t admit that but it is purely mathematic.

I thought so too. But then I woke up one day and realized I've spent 25 years with the same company, making nice money.

If you want to be in management, then go for it.

Management can be a great job if you know how to treat people, have a good corporate culture, and make decisions well. If you’re not confident you’re walking into a situation like that, then it’ll will probably be hell about half the time. Still not bad, but definitely not fun.

My wife says that's simply outdated and doesn't often happen anymore.

I am 57 and can speak from experience. Don't stay with the same company for life. I felt the same with my first company out of LSU and stayed 23 years. Way too long in hind sight. I had old timers tell me earlier in my career to get 5 years with this company and move on. Should of listened. I am fortunate I finally moved on and I am in good shape but I always wonder "what if".
