When I lived Uptown I purposely started leaving my car unlocked and NOTHING inside after having to deal with multiple smashed windows. frick that.
When I lived Uptown New Orleans the only time anything was ever stolen from inside my vehicle was when I left it unlocked.

Not necessarily true. They’re definitely smashing windows, even during daylight hours.

A friend of ours who lives uptown (five blocks from Audubon Park and four blocks from the River) got back from a trip north and we warned him about the breakins. His response was that he'd run errands two different mornings and seen people out sweeping up broken glass both mornings and he wondered if that was a new thing.

Yep I agree. Dallas DA just started not prosecuting theft under $500. This is going to get worse and worse.

t was on the corner of Burthe and Hilary, right outside my house.

right by one of our rental properties, the old lady who lives there called us around 6a the morning after complaining like I'm supposed to be able to do something about this.

I heard there were three women in the car with the guy that was killed.

Petty crime is up because liberal prosecutors are not pursuing property crimes like they should and both the cops and criminals know it. Muh non violent crimes.

I’m surprised that no one mentioned the shooting that happened uptown last week. It was on the corner of Burthe and Hilary, right outside my house. frick that shite. They said it was a drug deal gone wrong and closed the book. No mention of it otherwise.

damn. we live on the same block

there's been no news coverage which is surprising given the location. it was basically a bunch of west bank trash over at TJ quills who got in a fight involving drugs to some extent and someone decided to settle it with a gun. All the parties involved were white. the victim was a kid who went to ULL. probably a good kid surrounded by idiots. obviously an awful tragedy but not some random mugging or "Street violence"

Definite possibility, but some kid breaking into cars most likely doesn't know that.

Just to be clear, if you leave your house in the morning and forget to lock a window, then come home to no big screen TV, computers, and other valuables, you are asserting that your house wasn't broken into?

Technically, no, it wasn't "broken into". It was BURGLARIZED. The clarifying phrase no one is using is "forced entry" or "no forced entry".

But in defense of OP, "broken into" is common speak for burglary.

So you want tax money to be wasted because some idiot didn't lock his car door which made it easy for some kids, up to no good, who opened the door and stole a pair of shoes?
