I'm assuming Acura has their version of FORScan where you might be able to push an update. Maybe look in a forum like this?

Are you describing CarMax, Carvanna, and others like it?

At the time Ford said they would simply sale direct to consumers and cut their dealers out of the loop....and I think they may have actually done so, I know one of our local Ford Dealers is now a Lincoln Dealer exclusively....

Louisiana (am sure other states as well) does not allow direct to consumer sales for autos, must go through a dealership.

No. They are dealers like any other.

Replacing catalytic converters is a license to take money. I'd wonder if that dealer would even give a credit for the metals in the 'faulty' ones.

Geaux Automotive is the only dealership group in the area that I will ever trust. They will even pick up your car and give you a loaner for the day while it is being serviced. It is a first class organization.

What I am talking about is something along the lines of CarGurus except there would be NO dealerships allowed to list cars for sale. With a user agreement which states in no uncertain terms that any dealers who do attempt to list a car would have to pay the list price or blue book value, whichever is higher, for the privilege of doing so....and then of course when one did it enforce that in civil litigation. There are thousands of people with late model low mileage used cars who wind up trading them in and taking a beating and thousands of buyers looking for late model low mileage used cars....its possible to list them yourself but the pool of buyers who realize they can get a loan at their bank or credit union is smaller than people who finance at the dealership....

I don't think they have ever moved on it but I do know several ford dealerships in our area spruced up the facilities and I have been told it was because Ford told them to or close the doors....

And you think they are going to pass along the savings to the consumer?

Why in the hell did you go into the dealer? You deserve the pain you’re currently going through.

You acknowledge that dealerships are liars but don’t believe that OP discussed the software update before running the diagnostic?

frick a dealership shop. They can all go out of business as far as I'm concerned. There not necessary and are only there to find other shite to repair that's not needed.

He agreed to it with the understanding it was a gateway to getting the software service he already researched and determined he needed. He says that he gave them pushback on the $180 and to please do the update. He also says he considered doing the part replacement himself but decided not to if it’s just a software issue.

They wasted a lot of his time.

The counter argument is that the service department is concerned that they will be blamed if you come in to address issue. A and they don't know about potential issue B. Owner of the vehicle comes back and says that the service department created issue b

Then a waiver should be signed.

I would talk to a lawyer. If they verbally agreed to do the reflash after the diagnostic, then refused, depending on your state that could be a breach of contract.

My wife is going through this. We paid to have the car completely fixed, it throws an error code less than a week later, and they told us we need to pay a diagnostic fee so they can see what's wrong and if it's on them, 250 dollars. I have a freaking reader, it's on one of the exact systems they worked on, and generally means one of the tubes was not put on correctly. We are going to another mechanic, confirming that's what happened, and I'll sue their arse in small claims court.

Spoken like a dealer.

Tesla would love to be able to sell directly.
