Oil system cleanout=$7 can of seafoam in oil then oil change after running it for a few miles. Hard to trust mechanics.

Surprised. Had a 15 year old Honda, Check Engine only came on couple times, think it was related to the Gas Cap. Light didn’t stay on for long

I had a Honda Accord all through high school and college. Put 250k miles on it. Never had any issue.

once drove and put well over 100,000 miles on a Suzuki XL7 that had a check engine light on for most of those miles. Hell, I sold it to a family member who has put another 50k miles on it, and that damn light is still on. It is knocking on the door of 200,000 miles, and that damn light hasn't burned out yet.

I’ve been driving my 04 Nissan Frontier with the check engine light on for six years.

What shop charged you $1200 to change the oil and a thermostat? Seriously would have cost me under $100 to do that myself. Which shop was this so I know who not to trust

They said the thermostat that regulates engine temperature was not functioning so the engine was reading as running too hot.

Thermostats are like $3.50. Maybe they meant a temperature sender, but still...

Dobbs in the Midwest.

Also, furthest from soy. I will never claim to know a lot about cars. Should’ve done more research before just paying the bill I agree. Was just trying the quick fix to get the car back.

Learning experience. Thanks for advice guys.

I'm always super suspicious when I hear that the problem is something super unique like this.

Next time buy black electrical tape and put it over the light. Problem solved.

have you done business with these guys before? Sounds like you got a $1200 bill for a new thermostat and an oil change.

We had a 92 Accord that we kept for 17 years and put over 300k on. The engine light was on for most of those miles -- and at one point, we replaced the engine. At that point, we figured it could only be the catalytic converter and since it passed inspection, I never bothered to fix it.

This makes me sad.

Tell your wife to hold off on the pegging for a while. Your a-hole is sore enough.

It's a four dollar knock sensor at the rear of the intake.

An honest mechanic is worth their weight in gold. Mine has actually sent me a YouTube clip to fix an issue before.
