Driver side inside door handle broke a couple of weeks ago. The hardware part was made of pewter, go figure. Took it to my dealership and was quoted over 600.00, had to replace the inside cover they said. Got a buddy that works part time there and he said order the part from auto parts store and I'll put it in for 25.00. Went to Rock Auto, ordered the mid range part for around 50.00, after tax and shipping came up to 70.00 and some change. Took it to him and in less than an hour had the new part in and working fine for about 100.00. Threw in some Fire Ball for a tip. And spoke to another friend who owns a dealership and says to me no dealership makes money on their service department.

Start of problem. Take it to a real repair shop.

Interesting take from him.

"So where does the majority of a dealership's profit come from? It's not from car sales, at least not directly. It's from the service and parts department, which accounts for the other 49.6% of the dealership's gross profits, according to NADA."

Sell it as is, and get another car. Not worth the money or time.

This is not true at all. Service departments keep dealerships afloat!

Sounds like they don't know what they are doing. Why would you change the plugs for a vehicle that just dies?

Sounds like a faulty fuel filter or the fuel line is sucking air from a leak or cracked fuel line. Or the fuel pump is bad.

I’d wipe my forehead, look up at heaven, then fall backwards in my chair. Shake my head a little then ask for a $5,500.00 deposit.

After you left I would put the right battery in your car and then nap in your back seat because I sweat a lot during the day. Probably wipe a few boogers on the floor.

Hard to diagnose over the internet with incomplete information.

With that said, have you put a brand new battery in it yet?

If that's not it sounds like a ground issue or a short in a wiring harness.

You need a competent independent shop to diagnose the issue.

Reach out to the owner/GM of the store. Tell him your story and ask if they can help you out with service cost or trading into something under warranty. Be polite and respectful, and if they are a well run operation they’ll try to help out. Hopefully it’s a locally family run store where owners are on site daily. Reputable business are run building relationships.

Congrats you received my only none jackass reply of the day!

Not long after his last post in 2015, he attempted to take a left onto a busy highway. His car stalled and was struck by an 18 wheeler. Sadly, he did not survive. Dealership has sent him to collections.

My wife’s GMC Acadia was doing same thing. Turns out it was a corroded electrical post in the fuse box making the computer go haywire.
