Some know I'm going through a divorce, we are in separation now.

X got a DWI last year and didn't blow (well the breathalyzer at least) so my insurance co dropped her from coverage. Of course she never stopped driving, or drinking or drinking and driving

I still have liability on her car but she refuses to get her own coverage, due to costs, and I'm not paying that shite for her mistake.

Can I just drop all coverage or could someone come back on me if she wrecks the car and it's titled to both of us ?

I'd love for her to get stopped and arrested again

If the car is still registered to you, you’ll get a flag on your DL if the insurance gets cancelled

You should be able to drop her but your lawyer should be able to draw that up.

The insurance company dropped her, she is driving with no insurance by the book.

But I do have insurance on the car under my name.
Car is titled in both of our names.

I'm not sure what would happen if she got stopped

Was she convicted or did she just not blow?

Can you sign the title over to her? Or do you want the car? Might be worth it to get yourself untangled.

I signed the car over to her in the lawyers office on the title but the lazy POS will not go to the DMV and have it officially registered to just her due to the insurance issue.

Gotta be honest. You need to force this issue ASAP.

If you really think she’s drinking and driving she could cause an event that destroys all of your Still mutual assets.

Good luck man

Have you filed your initial petition to divorce? Not sure how much it can protect you, but it’ll at least cease community property til you’re divorced. It might help a little.

If you’re no longer on title, couldnt you just cancel the registration/plate thru the DMV...same way as if you sold the car? If the registration/plate is cancelled then you won’t get flagged on your DL for dropping insurance and it would force the issue on her to go to the DMV and register under her name.

In LA, you can cancel the registration online without having to actually turn in the plate.

Whose name is first on the title. If it is yours then you get the fines for the insurance being dropped or not having it.

However, if her name is first on the title then she gets the fine and you should be ok dropping the insurance.

frick worrying about that, b/c if she goes out drinking and kills someone in said vehicle thats shes not supposed to be driving you'll have a lot bigger problems on your hands..

Get your name off that title asap...
