My previous Honda had a CVT. It was a 2015. Are Hondas with CVTs known to have issues? I thought that was more a Nissan thing

People complain about them just like people used to complain about automatic transmissions.

I picked up a 17 civic for a commuter and I enjoy the hell out of it for what it is.

I dont know much about cvt xmsn, mine is an automatic, i guess it could be a cvt, but I dont think so

My next vehicle I’m looking to getting is a Honda Civic. I keep seeing that they only offer manual transmissions or cvt transmission. Do they not offer you a regular automatic transmission? I’m not a big fan of cvt and that will be a deal breaker for me.

Son bought a new civic with the Honda Sensing package. It's a great car. This is our third Civic through the years. One of the best built subcompact vehicles on the market.

Unless it’s manual, I believe CVT is standard.

I wouldn't worry about the Honda CVT. Nissan on the other hand...

Very well. I bought it because it was a good deal and needed a more fuel efficient vehicle. I dont care about the xmsn as long as its solid, and I know it will last me for what I need.

I told my wife many cars ago that Id be happy with a civic and her drive my Silverado. Finally she listened and we are now profiting

Im getting older and have had my share of fun vehicles. This purchase was strictly to save money and get better gas mileage. Im very happy with the purchase.

Just get the CVT, they are fine. As reliable as a conventional automatic. And besides the car will be under warranty.

Though a real man would obviously get the stick.

Nonsense. Nissan got an unfair reputation with their CVTs.

That was my understanding. I’ve never heard any friends (or people on here) complain about their Honda’s transmission. I’m on my 4th Honda. My only regret was an Insight in 2010-11ish. That bastard car would shut off every time you stopped, including the AC. Not awesome in BR stop & go traffic, especially when you first get in the car in the middle of summer & it hasn’t had a chance to cool off yet. I’m convinced the car was trying to kill me.

Exact reason I bought my Ford Focus. I just need something to get me from point A to point B reliably and with a little fun when I'm by myself. I bought a 2016 Ford Focus ST with the 6 speed manual. It's a ton of fun, reliable, great gas mileage, and I can still get out one of the gas hogs if I feel the need.

The only thing I will say I don't like about mine is that the AC never stays on, so when starting the car I have to wait for the monitor to load and then go in and turn on the AC. I wish it would just stay where I left it, or had a button to select AC. That's honestly my only gripe.

Is yours a hybrid? That would annoy me, too. The AC on all of my other Hondas kicked on where I left it. The Insight was the only one that didn’t.

I thought the point of a Civic is to not spend $34k

No, not a hybrid. It has the new monitor which is basically a tablet sitting there. When starting the car, I have the AC controls, but to have the "AC" on, you have to wait for the monitor to load, go into climate, and push on AC.

Like i said, no biggie, but on hot days, its very annoying. Also, if econ mode is on, the AC will not get cold at all. Which i understand that AC is a utility, so not a big deal, but it is a huge difference.

My former car had that setup. I would be so annoyed that the AC doesn’t automatically come on. The screen can take awhile to get past the “be responsible” message, etc. my new one has the same screen, but it also has temperature control knobs, so I’m not 100% dependent on a touch screen.

I wonder if it’s a setting somewhere? I swear my old car would have the AC remain set at whatever I had when I turned the car off, but my memory is already getting hazy. I had a Fit, so it’s not like it was fancier than a Civic.

Generally speaking, Nissan is to Honda as ULL is to LSU.
