Never go to Honda of Covington. Beware. Caution. Don’t go. Tell your friends. And enemies.

My kids best friends dad is in his 50s and 25 years with Nissan service and is a service director
He would always hook me up at the local dealership and give me straight answers
We would always drink together and he would spill all the dirt. He told me for the last 15 years he’s never made under 250k and his best was over 400k. He said they are all taught to upsell and tell you how you have to get those every 15k services and half of that goes straight in the sales rep and his pocket. Him and the finance director both got a monthly residual on warranty plans.
When I actually met him for the first time, I had just taken my 08 Altima to another dealership and they said it would be 8K to replace it and it would die any day. He looked at it and said he wouldn’t put one dollar into it and not even flush it. Said just ride it till it falls off because they are known for making weird noise noises and slipping.
At that point it had 110 K on it and I turned it two years ago with 280K with the same tranny.
He did say the older he gets it messes with his mind and integrity, but it’s tough to replace that kind of salary. He said he doesn’t know how the finance director sleep at night on all the shite he knows he does to people.

Years ago, after a layoff, I went through training at a Toyota Dealership for sales, they admitted that they give free tire rotations and oil changes so they can get you car in and find other things to upcharge you on.
That's why they're all known as "The Stealerships".

They called and told me the plug was cross threaded, apparently from the last oil change at a 10 min shop, and I had to spend the money to replace the oil pan.

Went to a "stealership" recently to have the washer fluid pump changed. After an hour and a half, the service rep came to me with a list of things he recommended to have done on my vehicle. He said his mechanic noticed these issues and they'd be glad to take care of them for me.
They wanted to change my differential oil, which I had changed a few months prior at my own mechanic's shop. They wanted to change my front and rear brakes, which only had a few months wear since I had them done, also with my own mechanic. And the prices he was quoting for these unnecessary repairs was outrageous! Who told them to check my brakes?
Did get the washer fluid pump changed, but it was expensive. Two people you shouldn't trust...used car salesman and service reps at "stealerships".
Oh, yes...three people, not two. Never trust a Democrat!

I have a positive story about a dealership.
My MIL was dying. My FIL had dementia and had taken out the right front fender at a donut shop (Yes, he had been a cop). He wasn't doing well.
I called the dealership and explained what was happening and asked that they slow down work on his car until the confusion of her funeral had calmed down.
And they did. They 'had problems getting parts and then wanted the paint to match just right."
I and the drivers of west Knoxville will be forever grateful for that intentionally slowed service.

Brought my daughters Audi to Audi dealership (on airline next to Parkview) for new battery and a new battery was 1k.

I told them no and they charged me $250 for them to tell me their battery was 1k.
frick those bitches. Will never go back to any dealership service department. Bunch of thieves.

Housewives created this!
Helped a lady with a dead battery in her Acura mxd. She had called the dealership and hour away to bring her a battery when Walmart was across the street
Loaded her and battery in truck and $200 later battery was installed and she drove home. Spending $1,000 for a battery didn’t faze her but n the least because her husband was paying for it.

Paired up with a couple Discount Tire guys on the golf course. Very doable. Just ask and give them a bit of cash.

Have you looked to see where your oil filter is located on these newer vehicles ?
Generally they are located behind some plastic shroud in a location that takes a person with two elbows to access. And they have to use a mirror to see it.

I change my own oil now because I drive a diesel and oil changes are already expensive doing them myself.
I have always done so.

On a side note, I want to find the guy who designed where to put the oil filter and fuel filters on the Gen 5 cummins and kick him square in the nuts. I'm sure there's a worse design possible, but they made it the full experience to change the oil and fuel filters.
I assume you mean that when removing the filter oil splashes on all kinds of stuff (frames, cross members, etc) due to the dumbass location of the filter. I started cleaning around the housing with a few squirts of brake cleaner and then use a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil to push up behind the filer and let it lay across the frame. I kinda bend the foil a little to make a "funnel" to get used oil into the catch pan. Then after dumping I pull foil out and everything is clean.
Takes like 30 seconds and it works great.

When you have places down the road that can do it in 10 minutes…
Those places down the road road are more expensive and they don't rotate your tires and do a 9 point inspection.

I took my wife's suv in this morning to the dealer for an oil change/service. I started going back to the dealer for this a few years back because of the dope heads that work at the jiffy lube places. But after sticking me for $125 for an oil change this morning I think I'm just gonna start doing them myself again.

I work in parts and service at a dealership. No amount of explanation will ever work with tOT, my suggestion would be to head on down to the 10 minute oil change place.

I'll have to give that a try. Yes, the oil filter location is horrible. The fuel filter in the engine bay basically next to the cab is tough to get to and down in a bit of a hole. Not too bad on that one, but the filter by the fuel tank, you can't take off without taking a bath in diesel or waiting a long time for the fuel cannister to drain fully. Why didn't they make the back one where the whole container disconnects instead of just the bottom lid thing. I cuss the RAM engineers every time I have to do the fuel maintenance in particular.
