A number of years ago, wife calls me and says her co-worker's car won't start (wife and I were friends with said co-worker) and can I go to the school and help her? I just left office so said I would be there in about 45 min.
Get there, dead battery. Pull my car around, ask her for her jumper cables, she just stares at me. I get mine out, get the car jumped, unhook my cables, and tell her to get in car, do not turn it off, and follow me to an Advance Auto Parts about 2 miles away. so we can get her a new battery.
God as my witness, she stands there for a second, and says, "but why, I don't understand, you just fixed my car!"
I tell her, no, I did not fix the battery, I got her car started, and if she turns it off, it won't start again.
Get to the auto store, help her buy new battery, and insist that she also buys jumper cables.

No jackass, obviously I can't but I know when my battery is dead and what to do when it does go dead. If I ever needed to, I could tell someone how to change the oil or how to change a flat or diagnose most problems if I have a problem. If I have a problem I am not completely lost as to what I need to do.. jackass.
