Once you get past Airline, people start picking up steam driving balls to the wall to Livingston Parish.

That area is a straight shot. How do you have a fatal crash there?

High speed + lane change scenario = potential for roll over
=
potential for death
-
Also, people don't pay attention! Traffic comes to a halt, someone doesn't realize it until it is way too late and rear ends someone at high speed. Happens often, but not usually fatal.

I will never die in a car accident.

This is what I am thinking when I am in the car. I have avoided many accidents with this attitude.

Dang. Pretty much every time I get in my car, I have a passing thought that this may be it for me. Not in a hysterical kind of way; just matter of fact. Too many two lane roads in my area, so I always imagine I’ll eventually be taken out by a head on collision with a dumbass veering into my lane.

That’s a fact, and I see this almost every day. They’re very dangerous.

Same technique I use for STDs. That’s how I’ve avoided the big 3 so far.

Yeah, good luck with that. I totaled my car (as well as the at-fault driver's car) in a head-on collision a month ago. It happens suddenly and there's nothing you can do to avoid others' carelessness and stupidity. I remember saying to myself a split second before we collided, "this is going to fricking hurt". And it did. Thank goodness for airbags, though. Last time I was in a wreck of that magnitude was nearly 50 years ago and it caused broken ribs, punctured lung, concussion and nearly cut my nose off. Air bags weren't even a thought at that time.

This kind of stuff scares the crap out of me. I'm glad to hear that you're okay. I probably would have died from having a heart attack afterwards.

Thanks. Still sore and need PT for my left arm and shoulder that took the brunt of the force. Could have been much worse but both cars had front collision autonomous braking. My car started braking hard before I could even react and hit the brakes myself. I'm sure his probably did the same. My seatbelt even tightened up before the collision. If you are buying a new car, spend the extra money on the collision avoidance system technology if it isn't standard on the car. Might save your life.

They're compensating for the crawl from the split to Airline, which seems to get worse with every lane widening.

Because some people that have watched too much nascar drive like jackasses. Weaving in and out of lanes and squeezing into spots between vehicles that they have no business even attempting.
