Frankfort, KY is not that bad...it is just small. Hell, at least you have Buffalo Trace and Pappy there (at least that is something it has going for it).

I love my home state, man, but I'll call a spade a spade. Frankfort is a fricking dump.

Springfield, IL is also a dump, but it has all the Lincoln stuff. Doesn't make up for the fact that it's a dump.

I've spent a lot of time in Frankfort over the years - played golf tournaments at Juniper Hills and Lakeview, lots of basketball tournaments in the area, field trips, fishing at Elkhorn Creek, had a relative high up in KSP, some political stuff, on and on and on. It's an eye sore for Kentucky.

What would BR be like without LSU? ...probably worse than Jackson and Montgomery.
W/o LSU, but w/Southern, BR would be Jackson. A coonass Jackson w/plants

Haven't been to Montgomery since I was a kid. Some say it's worse than Jackson. That hardly seems possible.

Would be nice. And a new bridge seems to be at the top of the agenda for BR in 2017.

That's good. An alternative to get local and plant traffic off the I-10 bridge is needed.

I know they have improved arteries like Old Hammond, Perkins, Central Thruway, Burbank, etc. At some point the interstate needs to be addressed.

Something I noticed:

quote:

"We don't necessarily observe that when there are doldrums in the state economy. But in many ways, I was talking to one of the state economists this week, the Baton Rouge area and the Lake Charles metro area are really bolstering the state's economy."

Without the Baton Rouge and Lake Charles areas, the state's jobs numbers would be much, much worse, he said.

Seems about right.

Little Rock doesn't belong on the list.

Little Rock and Baton Rouge have both improved a lot recently. Both much nicer than Jackson or Trenton.

Had no idea you're from Kentucky. The only thing make Frankfort a dump is the shitty buildings for the state. (Not as a dump compared to Baton Rouge). Anyway, the surrounding areas around Frankfort are the most awesome land/sites in the US...the drive on old Frankfort Pike through Midway is incredible with the horse farms. Love going that route to hit up Wallace Station for the Hellerito breakfast burrito.

North Baton Rouge is Beverly Hills compared to South Jackson
And South Jackson is Palm Beach compared to West Jackson

I'm not even sure West Jackson has even been fully explored. The last safari that dared venture there has not been heard from since.

Eh, the whole town is kind of a dump. It's a beautiful area, though. I won't quibble with that at all. The Midway area is wonderful.

I think part of my issue is that Frankfort could be so much more.

Old South Baton Rouge (between Downtown, the Garden District, the River, and LSU) is rapidly improving due to a litany of developments plus the tram.

Downtown East is on the verge of flipping to Hipster territory thanks to the new renovated apartments and redevelopment of the entergy building.

Mid City has come roaring back along government street.

However, mall city, NBR, and the flooded areas in the east side of town are f$&ked.

Made the mistake of going to our Williston location in the winter once. That will never happen again.

Having moved from Baton Rouge to the Richmond, VA area within the past couple of months, I have a couple of thoughts on the matter:

1. Richmond has something that resembles a loop.
2. While there are tolls on some of the major parts of the city, it is a more effective way of offsetting infrastructure costs than nothing at all.
3. Downtown Richmond and downtown Baton Rouge are like night and day.
4. There has been some major renovations in some of the "rougher" areas in the past few years, like Scotts Addition and Manchester.

I won't deny that Richmond has rough areas, but I don't feel that Richmond is a dilapidated capital city. The industries and old money in this city wouldn't allow it to be dilapidated.

Lansing sucks but it isn't nearly as bad as BR.

Lies. The Great Lakes accent alone makes it worse than BR.

Sacramento

Sacramento on its worst day is a million times better than most other cities listed here.
