I recall the candy cigarettes being chocolate, not mint.

if you had change you could buy them from the cigarette machine
I remember always going to the grocery store with my mom and pulling those cigarette machine knobs
75 cents back at the A&P in Gretna if I remember correctly

Maybe chocolate flavored?
Never actual chocolate

Bought my kids a pack of the candy cigarettes a couple months ago. How about the shredded beef jerky that came in Skoal style can.

of course, she also let me "smoke" her real cigs when my mom wasn't around (just some puffing). I thought I was bad arse...sitting up on her counter, smoking while she cooked. Oh, and she would let me "flick" her ashes on her cigarette as well.

I loved those candy cigs and I couldn’t just let them hang from my lip to look cool….I had to bite and chew that little stick of sugar.

my brother and I were buying pack of cigs from Time Saver when we were teens. Hilarious, but we actually wrote a note to the store from my "mom" that they were for her. The dude laughed but sold us the pack anyway. LOL.

Yeah, I can easily remember them as trick or treat candy and even available at the corner Mom & Pop grocery store.
It was common practice for me to run down to the corner store as a little kid to buy cigarettes and beer for my dad.
Sometimes it would be national brand cigarettes but if money was tight, it would be Bugle or Target loose tobacco he'd use to roll his own.

Every once in a while, you can find these at Cracker Barrel.
When I get the urge, I'll swing by and blame everything on the Grandkids.

I do. I liked both. I had a lot of cavities when I was young.

I was checking out a gas station here a few years ago and looked down at the rack by the counter and saw some candy cigarettes. I was shocked, I figured they would have been outlawed.

Trick or Treating on a cold Halloween night, get a pack of candy cigs and you could pretend to smoke because you could see your breath in the cold. Good times.

Yeah, I go back a bit farther in time than you. I remember cigarettes being $.35 a pack for the national brands and $.15 a pack for Bugle and Target loose tobacco.
When I was a kid, lots of the neighborhood stores would sell loose cigarettes. The owner would open a couple packs and sell 2 cigarettes for a dime. That way he'd make $.50 a pack instead of $.35 a pack.
All candy bars were a nickel and sodas were a dime. I remember when a soda called "Big Giant" come out in 16 oz. bottles and sold for the same price as a 12 oz. root beer. No brainer for a kid to get those extra 4 oz. of sugar rush for the same price.

I remember, along with iron lawn darts, glass clackers and a tool set that had an actual saw and hammer included. Monkey bars over concrete, a metal slide and i rode a bike with out a gay arse helmet or knee pads.
