Know a guy that drinks close to, if not, a 12 pack a day of Bud Light. Very functional and has a good career...just never dabbles in the hard stuff. Basically stops at his local bar everyday, drinks 4-6 beers, then kills a 6 pack when he gets home.

Should I sit him down and talk with him, or is this medial fun activity?

Move to the OT.....

This is the dumbest question I've ever seen asked on this board and that covers some serious ground

have you seen intervention? The alcoholics on that show aren't drinking 2-3 cases of chocolate porter a day.

You can be an alcoholic and drink Miller 64. All it takes is that you can't handle your shite.

I think the only pre-req is that it's alcohol and you constantly frick up things in your life: work, school, relationships with your kids, wife, etc.

If your boy drinks and can maintain, then he's fine. But my guess is that there's more to the story.

Try to switch him to vodka. It’s even lighter.

If he enjoys drinking in quantity, tell him to stay far away from the hard stuff.

I see what you're saying, but at the same time, if it's a good friend and that noticeable, reaching out to him and offering support isn't a bad idea. I wouldn't go overboard with it, but just offer support as a friend.

It's about respecting him and his family and caring for a good friend. Just because he's not his mom doesn't mean he can't care for him.

It may sound kind of gay, but I l probably would have never got help for drugs if I didn't have good friends that really cared about me and called me on my shite.

Yes. He is what one would call a functional alcoholic at this stage. It will only progress to a point when it will be become dysfunctional. This dysfunction will start with the physical: destroying your metabolism, liver, blood sugar (think diabetes), concentration, memory and immune system then it turns to relational problems (intimacy, trusts, gentleness, kindness, etc.).

Then all hell breaks loose...

But....

What a stupid question.

Can you be an addict if you only swallow pills all day and never shoot up?

My uncle drinks about case a day of Miller Lite and wakes up every few hours during the night, goes out back, smokes a cig, grabs something to eat outta the fridge, and makes him an Evan Williams on the rocks.

Has a job. Never misses work, but yes he is an alcoholic.
