There was a cop at the Uvalde school. He exchanged gunfire with the shooter and was injured. That's how the gunman got past him and into the school. You know that guy has to be beating himself up mentally right now.

I've read on CNN that there were 3 police officers that exchanged fire with him. Two were shot and he still was able to access the school. He also had body armor on. If the police were only delivering body shots that obviously didn't work. They needed to take him out with head shots.

Needs to be managed airport style. One entrance gate, metal detectors, scan, and armed guard. It is what it is now. We have plenty of money for this, we are buying half the baby formula in the country and spent many trillions in Afghanistan for zero gain.

We should be borrowing every fricking best practice known around the world to keep schools safe. I'm surprised that we aren't already.

Except crackdown on guns, right?

So I’ve never been shot. But I do work with someone that has a Purple Heart. And he was wearing body armor. And he said it hurt like a sonofabitch getting smacked in the body armor. It’s not like the movies where you take multiple rounds to the plate and just keep on ticking with no impact. So it’s probably likely that the cops weren’t hitting shite when this went down.

School in Florida had a useless security guard

To be far the security guard had a pistol and the shooter had an AR15. Wouldn't have mattered.

Do we have enough cops in the country to do that? Instead of sending another $40B to Ukraine, maybe we should take some of that and invest it in posting armed guards at every school and beef up ingress/egress security measures and systems at every school.

Or we could use all that money (plus the billions of extra dollars we waste on other useless shite) and invest in education & veteran/civilian healthcare (especially mental health).

Armed guards still doesn't address WHY people are shooting up schools, stores, etc...

I thought there's no difference between an AR-15 and a handgun other than a longer barrel. That's what the gun nuts love to yell when people call AR-15's "assault rifles".

It was a cop at Parkland, btw, not a security guard.

Sheriff's want an SRO in every school but don't want to pay for it out their budget (AKA Jason Ard). He tried to pass a 10$ million tax to fund an SRO in every school in LP a few years ago while having a 10$ million surplus in his budget...

Theres the rub.

When it boils down to life and death, cops aren't required to put theirs on the line for you or your kids.

Arm the ones with actual skin in the game: teachers.

As far back as the 90's there was a "school resource officer" with a gun at every school, even in my relatively affluent area. Is that not the case anymore?

My kids relatively affluent school has one.

Ban people from under 21 from owning guns. I bet that will work.

If we can get armed security at a grocery store I think it's very possible.

Have you ever interacted with any teachers recently? They aren't Michelle Pfeiffer à la Dangerous Minds.

I wish...they'd still get them one way or another. Look at all the youths shooting each other (and others up).

The second amendment doesn't apply to only Michelle Pfeiffers.

More government is never the answer.

We can protect ourselves without posting a government official at the door with a government gun. I much prefer a private solution.
