Like, it takes a day by Amtrack to get from Chicago to New Orleans. In Europe and Asia it would take less then 2 to 6 hours. Why is most of America anti-trains? I don't get it. Trains are awesome and they give great sight seeing of America's beauty. I don't care what political party you are. All folks if you talk to them love riding them. But it falls short when it comes to actual support for funding.

Amtrak traveling at 450 MPH? Now that's some great gas mileage.

It's not. Its just been too sparsely populated to make effective use of them in the jet age.

You think it would take less than 2 hours to get from Chicago to NOLA? You think trains go faster than planes?

Practically offsetting the gas shortage by the mile at that speed.

There is a train from Beijing to Shanghai that takes like 4 hours.

Having driven to Chicago a few times and taken the train....

Two hours is WAY too optimistic...at 200MPH average speed, you're talking about 4 to 5 hours...

the major issues deal with right of way and eliminating grade crossings...

That's a two hour flight you moron: there is no European train that travels at 500 mph.

It's a sizable investment for an audience that does not exist at this point. Europe developed an extensive passenger train network because it worked for them. Perhaps had they not been so devastated by WWII and had more disposable income in the years after the war, they might have developed roads and seen personal ownership of cars take off, like it did here.

I would love a decent train service across the Southeast for sure. I would much rather ride a train from Houston to NO and drink than make the drive and sit through BR traffic.

900 miles. Average train speed in Europe is about 150 miles per hour. 6 hours in Europe. Average train speed in Japan is a little over 200 miles per hour. So a little more than 4 hours. Not quote as drastic as you are painting.

Amtrak has a hard enough time staying on the tracks at its current speed range.

Joe Biden about to fix all that
He talked about a train that will go coast to coast faster than a passenger airline
Part of his infrastructure plan

It's 950 miles. You can do that in 2 hours on a jet, much less any train.

It’s because of this:

America is absolutely massive compared to individual European countries.

How many people have even taken a passenger train trip in this country?

I have used trains when in Europe, but have only been on two passenger train trips here, and only one as an adult -- ATL to DC.

Because the train routes don't exist outside of the densely populated northeast.

If the routes existed and no one took the train, then you can make this argument.
