because they wanted access to its specific activities, advancement opportunities, and awards.
Lol. They wanted to rob the joy of young men. A time-honored tradition of women since the garden.

This “federalism-style” organization is new to the Boy Scouts and only emerged recently as a response to the chaos of haphazard rule changes at the top.
Well that is false. Boy Scouts has used charter organizations since 1910.
My boys Troop was chartered through the Free Masons. They would not sponsor a second girls only troop.
I know Baptist Church charter organizations that did sponsor a second girls only troop.
What people on this board fail to understand is that they are 2 separate troops with separate leadership (scoutmaster, chairperson, treasury, etc..).

But under this system, a boy who lives in the area of co-ed troop is still restricted to that style of troop.
There are no coed troops.
Troops are unisex.
I was not affiliated with a charter organization that had both.
But I know enough that you are flat out making shite up.

There are other factors you aren’t considering. First of all is the assumption that the development of teenage boys and teenage girls is basically the same.
I dont understand your point.
Girls have been completing the boy scout merit badge requirements since the 1970s. All of the requirements. So much so that girls were the primary merit badge instructors at the 2 separate summer camps that my boys attended. These were not boy scouts (not permitted at the time). They were venture, crew, and explorer scouts. Their dads were probably boy scout troop leaders or former eagle scouts able to volunteer for their crew.
Every boy earning Eagle Scout in NorthEast Georgia and Atlanta Area Council took a merit badge course taught by a girl who was 15-18 years old. But those girls were ineligible for the rank of Eagle because they weren't allowed to be boy scouts.
quote:
Are they following the same guidelines and expectations for the same badges, honors, and achievements?
They are separate troops. But the books are the same. The requirements are the same. The merit badge counselors are the same.
quote:
What about the Boy Scout Camps? Are boys and girls attending the same regional and national summer camps? At the same time?
This has been happening since the 1970s. I dont know how many times I can say that the merit badge instructors are majority female. And range from 15-18 years old.
I have been to a summer camp since girls were added. Their troops stay in a completely separate part of the campsites from the boys.
But the camp staff all stay in the same area (separate housing and bathrooms. But same area). Has been that way for decades. Staff is a team.
quote:
Do they still have troop competitions at these summer camps?
Troops are rated for cleanliness. Constructing a campsite entrance. Campsite tool yard. Camp gadget. And volunteer hours are weighted into end of camp awards (KP, bathroom duties, etc..).
quote:
The sense of male achievement and rights-of-passage are no longer the same experience for boys if you include girls. And vice-versa!
bullshite. That is like saying a bachelors in science is meaningless since all girl schools started giving them out.
Grow up.
Eagle Scouts get pay advancement in the military. And hiring practices strongly favor eagle scouts versus genpop.
And as I said, there wouldn't be 1 eagle scout in the Northeast Georgia Council or Greater Atlanta Council over the past 20 years without the venture/crew/explorers teaching the classes.
