I work in sales in the Logistics industry.

Go check out how many import containers come into the port in NOLA on a given day.

Someone has to sell the rate of draying those containers from the port or the rail yard. Then you sell the rate of unloading and warehousing that freight. The freight might not be palletized so you sell the rate of skidding and wrapping that freight. You might transload the freight directly from the container onto a flatbed so there’s a sales opportunity for the transload and the actual delivery. All those different sales opportunities can come from 1 single container.

no they dont. You are working on bad info. All the national companies have clamped down on reps, base and bonus is the new straight commission for most companies.

While sales is still well compensated, it isnt what it used to be.

You may have got information about one company that you believe, and they may have a handful of reps that rep a very specific, highly technical line...but 400k is a lot of money in sales.

No offense, but sounds like something a computer could do faster and cheaper.

And the new tax laws tightened business expense deductions which I can only assume will have a tangible impact.

Well I found no shortage of patients who were raving about products I recommended to the doctor, so I don’t think so.

Yeah, I’m sure that you’ve been trained for hundreds of hours on it for “Google” to be your first place to look for medical devices. This is like a contractor saying his first place to go for building supplies being the dumpster.

They're working on it. It's called artifical intelligence and machine learning. Still in its infancy

Recommending your products and letting you cut on them isn't the same thing, surely you know that.

Some sales guys I deal with are dumb as rocks. Others really help us save $$, or boost production through their companies offerings. It's a mixed bag.

Tax consulting some of the largest companies in the world. Mainly telecommunications and oil and gas, but some health care and manufacturing as well.

I didn’t read every one of your post because they were almost unbearable. I don’t know what you do but I can assume you watch sales people from a distance. All I can hope is that you never manage people who are paid off of performance basis because you obviously cannot see the need for no limit pay scales. My advice to you would be to try and look at why you need these people that a lot of smart businesses pay a lot of money to and stop looking for reasons to hate them more than you do.

I’m still traveling my arse off working, but now do a Mon-Thurs job with a 3 day weekend. I don’t mind the traveling stuff, but the OR is too fricking intense.

Seems like something that software could very easily replace.
