I'd sell it for a pack of .308 barrel nut shims right now.

Take the $1000 and vote the way you want anyway.

Is...is that not what the welfare state is?

I'm very surprised at the answers here.
When I was in my late teens/early twenties, yeah. You could have bought my vote for anything.
Now? It depends on if it can be bought, but it won't be for $1000. What can you even do with $1000?
If I think voting for you would actually harm the community I was in, it can't be bought. However much you offer me would not be worth whatever perceived destruction might occur from 2nd, 3rd, etc. order effects.
If it's a toss up on an issue, you're going to have to come with a lot of money.
I get more cynical as I get older, so this doesn't make sense, but I feel like selling your vote is one of the most outright vile things you can do. I'll be vile, but it will cost a lot of money.

Since they can't prove I didn't vote the way I said I would, I would gladly take a free $1k.

Hell yeah and would be a repeat customer.

I would take the cash, vote for whoever I want, then call the FBI and report the $500 bribe

If it was a tyrant who threatened to execute me if I declined, yes I'll take the G

Am I required to submit proof for the cash, or will they just take my word?

Not in a presidential election. That would take a lot more.
Odd take being that a single vote in a presidential election is so much more insignificant than a smaller election.
A friend of mine won a city commission race in Florida with a total of 250 or so votes. He raised almost $50k in financing. I joked that he raised enough money to pay every person who voted for him $200. It’s insane what campaigns can raise. Trump had no idea in 2015-2016. By 2017 he figured it out. Every dollar started going to the various PACs’

Votes have been getting bought for much less for a loooong time.

They could buy every vote for the rest of my life for $1,000

Curious if anyone would sell their vote for local , state, or national elections and how much would they believe it’s worth. Assume you never get caught
$1000.00? No, that is chump change.
