Can shoes be restored no matter how bad they are?

Nothing like a craftsman who knows his stuff. Check out this youtube video of a cobbler restoring some shoes that should be left for dead.

I've used him before. Does really good work.

I tore up a pair of Magnanni’s at a wedding and I need to see if they can be repaired but I doubt it.

Having a shoe that's worth repairing is the baller part. I love watching those videos

I do have a pair of old work boots that have gotten pretty stretched out, and size to big (to handle thicker socks orginally) that I wonder if a coobler could tighten up and knock a size or half down on it. It's all the same leather, so I figure just snipe so excess off then put the sole on it.

Anyone know if it's that easy?

he probably can. He has one video where he repairs a tore up Cole Haan. Phony heel, glued sole, paper welt, rebuilt it from scratch and made it better than when it left factory.

The leather on the outside of my shoe looks like someone took a knife to it. I don’t think it can be repaired

He would need a last so he can resole the footbed to make them tighter. Your easiest solution is to use inserts if it's only half a size.

I’m not sure, but i THINK he’s done that a couple of times.

It’s always enjoyable to see someone that is a master at their craft. No matter what that might be.

I had a pair of my paw paws cowboy boots that were absolutely wrecked restored. Not quite like new but pretty damn close.

Not that simple. Yes it is possible to a point but not really worth it. FWIW I know a good bit about this craft. 2 generations of some of my family did this.

You say that like a last is some special piece of equipment in a shoe repair shop. You literally couldn't be in that business without one

Depends how wrecked. As long as there are no holes in the leather or whatever they are made out of, re-sole them and keep them going. Wrecked is how boots you are going to wear daily should look.
