As someone who has head to deal with challenges all of my life, this is my advice. You HAVE to learn how to not think about it until you have to otherwise it will absolutely eat you up inside. So when you are at a point where there is nothing you can do absolutely do nothing about it (like on the weekends, at night.. any day that in in between having to wait for something, etc).
Its easier said than done, but you have to try as much as possible because stress will impact your health.
And you also have to learn how to play by your own rules because if you don't you will always be at a disadvantage.
With that said, you can't take legal action on them for refusing to re up your lease? You had no choice but to report them because they were putting you at risk by refusing to fix the leaks. Do you know anyone who is an attorney who you seek legal advice from?
Sometimes just a letter from an attorney will change decisions that have been made. Threatening them with a lawsuit might change their mind. I doubt they want to risk being in a situation where they have to pay for lawyers, etc.
You just have to roll with the punches. There will be times when you take 3 steps forward only to have to take 5 steps back.. But the only thing you can do is whatever you have to for your best interest.

Owl, do you have any friends who will let you temporarily stay once you're evicted so you can have some time to find a place that falls within your budget? I know it's a bitch to find a place that'll suit your needs in such a short amount of time. Hell, maybe even throw it out there in the facebook waters to see if you get a bite from some of your friends and even acquaintances. People, more often than not, are willing to reach out and extend some love in these sorts of situations. Keep your head up because you'll eventually be a stronger man as you learn to navigate these uncertainties. From a mental perspective, look at this situation as an opportunity rather than an obstacle to become a better man than you were yesterday in the same way as physical rehab has strengthened you from where you were to where you are now. Keep pushing because gratitude awaits you on the other side of this.
