Plastic bags are everywhere you just have to pay $.10 per or you can bring your own bags and avoid the fee. Have you ever checked into Uline for your shipping supplies?

My wife wants to go to Bora Bora next summer. I may need to start with more than a dollar.

I mean, it’s still work regardless of enjoyment. Work is defined as “activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.” He’s spending a lot of time and effort to make money to afford a vacation.

I know some posters here love cutting their grass. It’s still a chore, because a chore is defined as “a routine task, especially a household one.” Enjoyment isn’t a factor.

I think it’s a really cool idea, and it’s interesting to follow. I’m hoping antique is successful and I think he will be. But the real title of the thread could also be “can I turn my part time job into a trip to Japan”

But the challenge of said ‘part time job’ is that he started with a $1 item. Kind of like the guy that used Craigslist to trade for a cell phone and ended up with a Porsche. It’s just a way to keep things interesting.

It’s not work, it’s a hobby. Other than the actual hitting the curbs every other Saturday (which is relaxing to me), I probably spend 1-2 hours a week managing my stuff. It takes me less than a minute to list something, and 5 minutes packaging something. The post office picks up my items off my doorstep, or I stop on the way to work if I’m working nights. I drive past the post office if Geismar, so it takes 1 minute to stop and drop off.

I completely agree with you. I think it’s a fun concept and it’s cool people here can follow along.

But the amount of time and effort he’s doing to turn that dollar into a vacation isn’t any different from working a part time job, which could also pay for the trip. That’s all I’m saying. However good for him for making a fun game out of his part time job.

Turned that $12 into $118 profit by selling the following:

Are you saying you spent $12 on all of that stuff that you then sold for $118 profit? How’d you get all that stuff for $12?

I have Ralph Lauren lowball scotch glasses that were like $5.99 a piece at TJ Maxx and I always see wine ones too.

They look awesome though. It’s not crystal obviously but attractive and heavy nonetheless.

No, first initial purchase, the golf flag (I paid 50¢ for) sold for a net profit of $12.
I took that $12, bought a few things, sold some of those, turned that net profit into more purchases, etc.

Everything I’ve sold is pictured in the OP (in order of which they sold). I also have all the following, purchased with the net profits of my sold items.

Plus I have $113 in cash. The number behind each item below is the estimated value

Santa Fe poster $20
LSU pour spout $15
Dole book $15
Silver & gold bracelet $20
Silver bracelet $15
Harley helmets $85
Monteblanc case $20
Nespresso machine parts $25
Juicy purse $15
Kanna shoes $15
Hilfiger purse $10
Peacock buckle $10
LSU women’s BBall shirts $30
Scarf $30
Astros hat $20
Alligator purse $30
LSU Dry Fit $25
Seinfeld poster $20
Carnival glass $20
Wine stopper $15
Hummingbird feeder $20
Match box $15
Japanese bottles $15
Chocolate cookbook $10
Mickey/Minnie ghost $100
Dewalt hat $20
Nationwide hat $20
Oakley hat $15
7 holsters $20 each
Barkley jersey $20
Malone jersey $20
Army patch jacket $30
Helmut Lang $25
True Religion jeans $30
Golden jeans $20
14 vinyl LP’s $10 each
Army seat cover $15
Roger Federer ball $25
Kors Snake skin purses $50
Red phone $30
R Lauren glasses $100

All of this off my initial $1 investment (actually 50¢ investment)

If my math is correct, I’ve sold $406 worth of stuff, for a gross profit of $406 (about $345 in net profit).
Of that $345, I have $113 in cash and about $1000 in eBay items. I’m not expecting all this stuff to sell, but if they don’t, so be it, they were not bought with my money, it was bought with other people’s money.

I was surprised at the value of its parts. I got it for free at a garage sale. I paid $5 for a single serving espresso machine, which I kept and brought to work. I nearly passed on the nespresso machine, she said take it.

I normally run auctions, but I swapped to Buy it Now or best offer format for this challenge, so I really couldn’t answer this question.

Yes, it was pretty nice.

They had $40 on the clubs, $50 on the Bose, $30 on the sewing machine, $20 on the two rackets, $5 on the Citizen watch, $5 on the pans. $150 in total, I bundled, offered $100, they took it.
