Totally not acceptable. Everyone knows that "Sweet Cheeks" is the preferred term to use when addressing female bartenders.

By any chance is your associate not from the South?
IMO, nothing at all wrong with what you said, it's a typical exchange in the South.
But people from other regions can get bent out of shape over it.

What’s more odd is that you keep capitalizing the word Honey.

Sounds like someone looking to be offended.
The other day I was at the hardware store and a nice young black gentlemen was helping me find what I needed. I got to reading the back of the box on something and when I looked up he was gone. I find a lady around the corner and asked, "A young black guy was helping me, do you know where he went?"
She seemed stunned I would describe him like that, and said, "What does the color of his skin have to do with anything?"
I responded, "Because that's what he looks like and he was helpful. I'm not looking for his home address to burn a cross in his yard."
I probably should have left the last part out, but give me a break lady. Would you not describe me as a mid 40's white guy?

It's easier to just stick to actual names.
It was a bartender that he didn't know. I doubt they were on first name basis.
I don't think I've ever called a bartender honey, but I'm also in my 30's. But I can't imagine scolding another man for calling a girl honey. Especially if he wasn't trying to hit on her.
His friend sounds like a douche. I would have legit told him to F off.

No you didn’t
I should have quoted the whole made up exchange and said none of this happened. Mingo regrets the error

I don’t see the problem with that language, because I assume you meant it in a courteous manner. However,, I could see where someone could be offended, if they were looking for a reason to fell victimized. Right or wrong, that is the society in which we live.
I just choose to avoid such language because there is no need to overcomplicate life!

Some people think it's offensive because it's belittling to a female. But in the south that's just how people talk. Most restaurants I go to, the waitress calls me something like that. And any place where older black ladies work, they always call everybody baby or honey. It's endearing to me, but some people in other parts of the country think it's offensive, as opposed to people just being nice.

Should have said "Another round of beers, barmaid"

Was your friend drinking some fruity frozen drink and using one of these straws?

Op's is. Would be a very dumb story to make up. Not like it's a troll post.

It sounds like that beta should respect your culture and apologize to you.

i was similarly scolded by some female coworkers when i called our bar tender something similar. i cant remember if it was sweetheart or honey, but something along those lines.
they said i should not do that. I shrugged it off. The bartender did not seem like she mind and gave me a smile. This was in Pennsylvania, northerners can be a lil stuck up sometimes.
