No it was wood. That gym was old when I was a kid though. I suspect they painted over it and maybe the flood washed the new paint off. I'm not entirely sure.
Someone I know took that pic that still has kids there.

I know exactly which Central Private cheerleader uniforms you're talking about. I really need to dig out one of my older brother's "The Confederation" yearbooks from the early 1980's. Heads would blow with some of the "school spirit" photos from that thing.

Yeah, I started there in 1983. I don't know who has all of my old yearbooks. They either got lost or one of my sisters has them.
