Not sure how many but for all 3 of my kids we went home with a pile of diapers from the hospital that our nurse gave us
My wife started her career as a labor and delivery RN and she said she did that every time for patients too
Yeah this has been my experience as well

This is pretty far down the list of things I would be worried about any government spending money on.
Also this.
Cancel a worthless handout and throw that money at this.

We left with a bag of a few dozen diapers and wipes and we rich AF

For those of you in this thread voicing support for this initiative-
Where is the evidence that babies in California are going without diapers?
Also, California has the most generous welfare system in America. Low income parents get their housing, healthcare, food, and daycare paid for by the state. That is a massive chunk of expenses they don’t have to worry about. Why aren’t they using their income or their existing govt cash payments to buy diapers?
The entire point of having CalWorks (CA’s cash welfare system) is so low income parents can buy things like diapers
Why is this extra program needed?

these will be the most expensive diapers in the world. You easily could have partnered with local churches to provide this
No. You could not have.

Not that it’s really that costly of a program compared to everything else the government spends money on, but you really shouldn’t have a baby if you can’t afford diapers.

I’d bet they also provide free car seats since it’s too much hassle fighting with them about the illegality of driving your newborn home without one.

Only on the OT/PT will people bitch about helping babies while crying about abortions

Can't believe they are passing out these environmentally unfriendly landfill hogs for free.

This is such a lame reply
California already had cash welfare programs for low income parents so they can buy essentials.
Why is this program necessary?

Are you as a tax paying California resident on the hook for this? If no, then why do you care? It has also been pointed out by multiple posters that they were sent home with diapers, would you say, "no thanks" and leave them there?

It obviously SOUNDS good, which is why it’s being publicized.
What actually should happen is cut taxes, wasteful spending, and NGO fraud. That ain’t gonna happen though.
Then people wouldn’t need “free” stuff.

Can’t wait to see the future carjacking videos. Hospitals usually have really good cameras.

I don’t understand what is wrong with this.

This is dumb. The major diaper manufacturers give millions and millions of diapers away to hospitals each year for this very purpose.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach him to fish..........................
Now give a man a diaper, he poops for a day. Teach his parents to clean cloth diapers and line dry them in that warm california sun, and .........
