As a kid, I loved staying up late watching QBs sling it all over the yard in some 48-45 type game.

Thursday night Pac 12 was some of the best CFB ever had to offer. Sad to see what it's become

Hayward Fault Line

I think it opened up in the 4th quarter and swallowed Cal’s offense.

My question is WHY was football seemingly devalued at places like Cal, UCLA, Colorado (presumably after the recruiting scandal under Barnett), Arizona State?

Communist democarts and the rainbow coalition. That’s the answer.

Only in California would they build a stadium on a fault line.

Woodlawn High School in BR was built on a fault line. Way more recent than 1923. The high school was torn down and replaced by the middle school which may not be affected as much by the fault line. Time will tell I suppose.

I think it's more a function of changing student populations. The farther west you go the more the demographics trend toward a student population that frankly doesn't care as much about football as your typical midwestern or southern school.

UCLA was 75%+ white until the 90s. Now it's minority-majority, with Asians and Hispanics making up like 70% or something of the student body. For better or for worse American football just isn't ingrained in the population of these schools any more.

In 1988, California voted overwhelmingly for George Bush. In 1994, California banned welfare for illegals via ballot proposition. The reason none of those things can occur ever again in California is due to massive, unchecked illegal immigration. So, your analysis that student populations are changing, although not wrong, has its root cause with my answer above.

It's an interesting place for college football. Stadium itself rivals the bottom rung of the SEC. It's kind of in the side of a mountain so that was cool. Felt about 50% full to see an awful football game against Auburn last year.

I sat on that Hill/Mountain that is right on top of the stadium in 2005 and watched Cal & Marshawn Lynch lose to USC w/Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush & Lendale White. The Trojans won 35-10, fun times. It was basically like sitting in the Upper Deck at Tiger Stadium.

Baton Rouge has a Memorial Stadium too.

Certainly, it’s just as good as this California BS you are posting on about.

Mayor Broome would like to have a word with you young man.

California voted for Prop 8 when I lived out there in 2008-2010. Prop 8 defined a family as a union of a man and a woman. After years of indoctrination either through the schools, media or pop culture, homosexuality is now not only tolerated but celebrated. For some this development is the mark of an advanced society, for others it’s a mark of a society in decline.

Permissiveness, lasciviousness, etc., this is what we’ve become.

As far as Cal goes and their football stadium, they’ve got bigger issues that should demand their attention.

Every successful Colorado run was followed up with a scandal. They divested heavily in football after years of this but they are trying bring it back.

They’ve retrofitted and renovated the stadium over the last 20 years. It ended up costing a small fortune. Partly due to building codes due to the fault line

they couldnt...you know..move the stadium to the other side of the campus where its NOT DIRECTLY OVER A frickING FAULT LINE?

serious question:
even if they moved it clean off campus all the way to the water's edge, it's only like 2 miles from its current location.
is that really far enough from the actual fault line to matter?

I can't believe they let them shoot off a cannon. Guns are bad and cannons are used to kill people. I'm literally shaking I'm so triggered.

What difference would moving the stadium do? Damage will be widespread if there is a major quake on the fault., they estimate that 155,000 dwellings will be completely destroyed, and no buildings on campus will go unscathed.

The Hayward Fault has a major quake per 140 years on average. It is about 16 years past due now.
