The van then drove into the first patrol car that arrived at the scene. After a second ramming attempt, the officer fired his weapon toward the van in response. At least eight shots can be heard in the video.

The officer can then be heard trying to negotiate with Mcgonegal until backup arrives. He tells him to put his hands up, saying, “I don’t want to hurt you.” Manteca Police Chief Stephen Schluer said the dialogue continued for about eight minutes. Other officers arrived and also attempted to get Mcgonegal to leave his car. Instead, he remained and at one point lit a cigarette. At times he did comply with officers’ requests to show his hands but would not leave the vehicle. Schluer said that second attempt at de-escalation by officers lasted for about 15 minutes.

Eventually, Mcgonegal backed up his vehicle and then drove forward into another patrol car. After he tried to do so a second time, the officers fired their weapons.

He had already had his car shot up and still fricked around? Suicide by cop.

Looks like he didn't obey the one-way flow that most fast-food establishments establish. FAFO.

You sound like a dramatic woman.

Let's ground ourselves in reality for a second. These officers didn’t stroll up there looking for a target; they reacted to an dangerous threat in a crowded public place. You think we’re supposed to wait until someone gets ran over before “allowing” a lawful use of force? No, that’s absurd. Law enforcement’s job is to protect citizens, not to stand around and pray the bad guy gets tired. Suggesting prison sentences for people who did their job under fire isn’t justice—it’s deranged and delusional.

The correct response is, "good shoot"

I mean he was being a dick but shooting him 47 times seemed extremely unnecessary. I’m a conservative but we’re living in a pretty shitty society if people cheer on a bunch of whiny fig California cops surrounding a 60 year old 400 pound man in a broken down minivan then shoot him for hitting their free vehicles and trying to get away from them. Pretty obvious he wasn’t trying to directly hurt anyone

Its how theyre trained and its the expectation put upon them.

Its a one size fits all approach and terrible.

They had plenty of opportunity to box the van in.

lawful use of force?

How many cops were needed to empty their clips before the target was subdued?

Sorry, I have a different view than you, that doesn’t make me a “dramatic women”. Are you a sexist?

Next time I’m rear ended I’ll be sure to bring a second clip just in case I empty my first into the driver.
