Why bring up only INCOME tax. Texas has high property taxes to make up for the low income tax. Total state taxed is what counts.

Texas = 8th in per capita total taxes
California = 39th in per capita total taxes

Their economic success is pretty easy to diagnose. Texas is the energy capitol of the US and has thousands of high paying energy jobs with scores of cooperate headquarters. California is the tech and entertainment capitol of the the US and has thousands of high paying positions in each. Both states are able to capitalize on the numerous amount of wealth generated by those industries. It leads to entrepreneurial growth in businesses that supply both the industries and high income earners with services which leads to more economic growth.

It's hard to argue....
I'd say Va is up there. As is NY state.

I would have thought California would be higher than 39!

I'd bet both of them combined has a bigger GDP output than Russia X 2

Uhmmm..... No it's not. They can't spend like they used to.... Mainly do to prop 13 which is a vestige of Reaganism and really fricked the finances of the state. But their economy still blows Texas away. And Venture Capital is probably 10 times what Texas has.

That's because most people don't do any independent research. They hear that California is "the bastion of terrible liberal politics" and without ever going there or living there they think it's terrible. California is awesome.
Texas is awesome too by the way.

Exactly. My brother had to move to San Diego for his work. He and his family love San Diego. And they are saving almost no money at all. Rent is close to $4,000 a month and to buy a house would run them over $1,000,000. His kids are getting out of high school now and he's headed back to the midwest so he can save money and retire some day.
California has some of the most beautiful country in the country and I love going out there. And I'd never consider moving there.

Go look up the comparison of unfunded liabilities between the two.

That is the feeling I get. It seems like it would be a bit difficult to lead a middle class lifestyle in a place like California. Of course, my view of the costs out there are skewed because living in the South, I'm around low wages and low costs of living. Anywhere outside the South seems expensive from my point of view.

I'll agree with Texas but no way does California come close. The best thing that could happen is an earthquake splits Cali from the mainland and it sinks. Screw Lib Land Cali.

If California is so great who does God not give them water and keeps trying to burn it with wildfires

I will say Texas is a great state and I wish Lousiana could mimic it.
Great schools, affordable nice housing, great job opportunities, etc etc

The best thing that could happen to who? California has some abysmal policies but they're a net giver to the federal government.

So, and an upper 20s couple with decent jobs, we could live a pretty good lifestyle still in the bay area

But then you're stuck in a city, surrounded by Texans
