Ok.. lets think about this for a second... Here are questions that I'm sure the Calexit folks haven't thought through..
1. Where would they get military? Many Californians despise guns, military police etc.
2. Where would they get Energy? Gasoline? Oil? Electricity etc.
3. Currency?
4. Would they want a wall and borders to keep all of the rest of the "nasty racist, bigoted, homophobic, sexist, islamaphobic, etc. US" out?

People and money? They have military bases already and plenty of people with important military knowledge would stay. Brainiacs in the Bay Area like Elon Musk, Apple, and Google could probably figure something out. Also, maybe they won't be the world police?

They could buy or trade for it. I mean why would American energy companies not want to sell it to them? Solar power for grids and electrified transportation is getting much more viable anyway. Still need oil for plastics and other by-products but you can buy all that in the international market. There's actually oil in California and refineries. Bakersfield is basically Texas.
I'd worry more about water than energy. They can buy water but there's always the risk of the US being anti-free trade and cutting them off. They'll need to invest more in desalination technologies.

3. Currency?
That's tricky. Our treasury isn't perfect but it's held up well. If California wants to reap the rewards of fiat currency then it'll need to do it's own thing. Otherwise it could stick with the dollar, or use Canadian or Euro dollars. Perhaps they would develop a crypto-currency.

I'm guessing not.

Right - they leave the US and get to keep the military bases, equipment and personnel.
This alone is the biggest reason Cali would fail on its own.

California's economy is just too large to ignore...they would be reeled in pretty quickly.
They would go broke immediately. No more federal funding, the tech industry would move out of the state. Who is going to fund their military? Considering they are infested with huge droves of illegals, they would be begging us back into the union.
I'm 100% sure these idiots who are supporting this haven't thought of any of these issues. They probably think they can be independent and still reap the benefits of the rest of the union.

Like 70% of that state can't survive without federal funding

The most important thing is to not waste resources finishing the wall along the southern border of CA, and instead prepare for the wall to divert North along the eaten border of California and around to the Pacific at the northern border.

That would be losing the country's biggest source of income. Doesn't seem like something to celebrate does it?

Doesn't California pay more to the federal government in taxes than the states recives in federal dollars?
But people in California don't think like me, let em go.

Orange County is red. Also I hope y'all realize this "movement" is completely on the fringe and has 0% chance of ever happening. By the way pretty much all of Northern California is blue too. Maybe Marin County is red.

People who probably live in a southern state criticizing Cali for spending federal funds and having welfare is super ironic. I'm just going to leave this here...

You have a giant military presence and a bunch of companies based on the American financial system. Rock that boat and see what happens.

Not really. Just remove the military installations and see what happens.

The bases themselves may stay, but all of the equipment would be gone.

Let them secede. Then send the military in to seize the ports. Then let northern and eastern California secede and form their own states, then move into the foreign country with extreme prejudice and wipe out all the commie scum.
Manifest Destiny Bitches.

Then we can invade them like the North did to the South when it did the same, kill the liberals, and take back paradise.

the amount of black separatists that would head west during a CalExit would be akin to The Grapes of Wrath and Manifest Destiny combined

And there is a problem with that?

Not so sure about that... And do not forget the all the military assets, (tanks boats bullets ect...) do not belong to California.
Also, while California may not receive as much federal aid as other states, they already have high state taxes . Now you are going to come up with some form of a national tax that would replace their existing federal taxes and I am guessing that would be high too...
The interesting wild card here is the hispanic population. What influence would Mexico have on succession. You could also throw in Asian countries and even Russian interests and long term how they could gain influence through Califiornia succeeding from the US.
Could have far reaching implications.

The tech companies would relocate.
Yeah, the company that just built a $5 billion headquarters would just relocate. California is ingrained into the cultures of Apple, Google, and Facebook. Doubtful they would just leave.
