How were they able to do that? Just curious.

They were probably already in the system prior to making that much and just never got off the welfare. Just another way of grifting by a certain demographic. That certain demographic includes white trash too.

If we just eliminated govt fraud at all levels, we could cut spending and lower taxes by 25% at least.

they have classes that teach them how to do this. typically through community churches

It’s not really fraud. Is it taking advantage of the system? Absolutely. But playing the game is not fraud.
It’s why the welfare system needs a rebuild

She admitted that when she was pregnant, 2 1/2 years before filming, that she just reported herself & kid(s) in the household. They claim the husband was making ~$50k then, but he was not claimed on the application.
Probably one of those things that would get picked up if the systems actually talked to each other. To avoid it, the husband/boyfriend would need to file a separate return to help hide the income and use a different address. Of course, using a different address could put the person that lives at that house in jeopardy for losing their benefits.

The system asks for household income. Even if they are not married and are living together, they need to combine all of the income earned in that household. Failing to do so would make it fraud.

Caleb used to post here as wikitiger.
Did well in Bitcoin and leveraged into this career
If Wiki had just 1000 Bitcoin and sold half at 50k he would have pretax cleared 25 million.
Assuming he bought more than a thousand he presumably did substantially better

Other filing status, the Household Income is the filer and dependent income.
For purposes of these forms, it is not the income of all people under the roof, claiming the address as their home address.

Meh, they are paying much more than $500 per month in income tax.
They are still net payers of income tax.

Jumping around to a couple of sites, and it appears we are both partially incorrect.

SNAP defines a household based on who purchases and prepares meals together, not just who lives at the same address.
If you live with an unmarried partner, roommate, or boyfriend/girlfriend, you can apply as a separate household if you buy, cook, and store your food separately from them. In this case, you do not include their income.
When You Do Have to Include Them: You must include your unmarried partner's income and count them in your SNAP household if:
• You share and buy/prepare food together.
• You have children together and live together (mandatory grouping rules often apply to parents and minor children).

Interesting.
You will find different criteria for Medicaid, WIC, and Obamacare. Lord knows what else
