And that's just the struggles of the 20th century Jewish people.

My family came here when 4 brothers left Ireland after being crapped on by the British during the Potato Famine. Ended up in New Orleans where we were used to dig the New Basin Canal and died in droves because we were expendable. Where is my money?

I would also add slaves brought to the United States represented about 3.6 percent of the total number of Africans transported to the New World, or around 388,000 people—considerably less than the number transported to colonies in the Caribbean (including more than 1.2 million to Jamaica alone) or to Brazil (4.8 million). Of those Africans who arrived in the United States, nearly half came from two regions: Senegambia, the area comprising the Senegal and Gambia Rivers and the land between them, or today’s Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Mali; and west-central Africa, including what is now Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon. The Gambia River, running from the Atlantic into Africa, was a key waterway for the slave trade; at its height, about one out of every six West African slaves came from this area. We should pay our 3.6% of any reparations due.

I mean, if we are honest, the British owe a lot of people reparations. Ireland and South Asia have extremely legitimate grievances.

I'm Lebanese, and my people were enslaved by the Romans and the Carthaginians. I should get at least a hundred thousand dollars. Every man jack reading this is descended from slaves and slavers - including the African Americans.

Certainly it was a factor, but Israel was well on the way to being created decades before the holocaust.

What does that have to do with my point on the British Empire, to whom former colonies have legitimate grievances, especially since the government is in effect the same government since the union of the crowns? For some reason, people don't understand how terrible the empire was for its subjects.

In terms of African slavery compensation, lots more than the Chinese could be cited for slavery, including Arab traders, various European empires, and Africans themselves.

Moved? Is that the term for rowing longboats there, then raping and pillaging?

Seriously, I'm reading a good adventure novel right now called The Long Ships. It's about the Vikings pirating everywhere.

What about newer generation Americans?

My family came to America in 1920s from Italy, had nothing to do with slavery.

First of all, the oppression and killing of Jews began long before 1941. The full scale, systematic murder of the Jewish population was getting really ramped up by then, but started about in 1938.

Secondly, Germany (West Germany, actually) began paying reparations to Israel in the early/mid '50s. The difference between black demands and the Jewish settlement is that quite a bit of capital was stolen from the Jews. Africans didn't have much in the way of monetary value when they were kidnapped and shipped to America (or wherever).

Lastly, I believe the reparations were paid to the Jewish state in the form of economic aid, rather than cutting a check for each individual to squander as they see fit.
