But with upper middle class white women without jobs to occupy their minds and on xanax and chardonnay.
Its quite truly "The Help" but in modernity. My mother in law quit that church because it was so gross to her. She has told us about "bridge night" with the women and how ruthless they are.
They shun people in that community for things that would blow your mind. A girl I know had a sister who started dating a black guy and she was told to basically stop going to church there.

A good chunk of my friends are atheist, and we rarely see religion discussed. And most of them are too scared to tell their parents. they are like 40.
eta: my wife is the most vocal atheist I know and she won't tell her parents. Her sister is also an atheist and she won't tell ehr parents.

This is what is called a vocal minority. You don't know of the existence of 99% of atheists because they don't talk about it.
That's like me seeing the people holding signs on Bourbon St. or knocking on my door to sell me their religion and saying "A lot of Christians really suck".
