Lots of knee jerk comments but I haven't seen a comment yet from someone with firsthand experience.

Probably because all of the first handers are dead. Be sure to take pics of that four runner when the tires come apart at 70 mph.

Aircraft tires are designed to be retreaded, your 4Runner tires were not. Talk about an irrelevant comparison.

When was the last time you landed your 4Runner and its tires went from 0 to 150 mph instantly???

Also, looking at those prices online, you're greatly exaggerating your savings.

A sacred cow is not a strongly held belief someone continues to hang onto in light of evidence to the contrary?

nah. I'll even take a pic of the receipt for you later.

Eta buying them in person so the price includes mounting and balancing.

CAD, I've personally seen some very shitty retreads come apart out on the trails before. I would do research into the brand before you bought.

I have heard some very good things about TreadWright tires as far as how they are made, good quality for highway driving and even in mud situations. However, if you climb a lot of rocks I have heard bad things about the very same tire. Apparently they do not hold as much air as a normal offroad tire and do not improve your footprint when airing down as a normal tire would/should.

Not trashy in a lot of cases. Just depends on the ones you get and what you use them for.

Either they charge $55 for mount and balance and no shop fees and taxes or they sold you something not on their website. It's not some great gotcha moment for you either way.

And since you're pimping the savings, I'll give you my comparison. My OE tires is a 275/55r20. Your retread that comes with no mileage warranty of any kind is $109. The Pirelli tire that came from the factory is $142 and has a 65,000 mile warranty. That peace of mind is worth an extra $132 for a set of 4.

Everyone comparing retreads coming apart on a 18-wheeler to a normal car does not make sense. The loads you'll experience on a regular vehicle aren't even close to a comparison to a 18-wheeler. It's like comparing apples and donuts.

Kind of like you comparing the load capabilities of trailer tires to passenger car tires?

Yes. Just like that. Those tires shouldn't be used in a comparison to passenger vehicle tires.

Right, but you see way more retreads come apart than tired that aren't retreads.

I'm solely basing this off of driving 100+ miles of interstate every work day for 7 years. Just basing it on what I saw.

in the 60's, we used recaps from Tillman Tires in West Monroe. They were stiff and heavy, and had a lot of bite. More than one street racer broke his car trying to launch hard while drag racing on darbonne bridge. the down side is they were known to unwind at high speeds. i wouldn't have a recap on a car that would go over about 45 mph.

Yes, nothing wrong with them on 16 of 18 on an 18-wheeler. I would not run them on the front though.

noting the comments about never on the front

I'm thinking the 4x4 is still nowhere close to the weight of an 18 wheeler ...

Dangerous and potential to tear the fender off of your vehicle. You ever seen a re-cap blow out on an 18-wheeler? No thanks, unless it's a woods/camp/hunting truck.

Eta bet these guys also believe in changing oil religiously every 3k miles
i like the consumer reports studdy done on oil about how "you can tell you need to change the oil when it is black". Well after a few hundred miles all oil turns dark. and the different between 3k oil and 6k oil isnt a great difference. but from them on the viscosity drops.

That's very similar to saying that more people die at hospitals than anywhere else so hospitals MUST BE STOPPED!
