They weren't a month old. And look into it. It's common knowledge not to run them on the front and he knew better but was trying to save some money.

Sick burn.
Were all those bridgestone tires that separated on explorers retreads?

I have no idea about light trucks though. It may be a weight issue.

If you're going to try to be witty, you should probably get the manufacturer of the tires right.

Yeah somehow I think without retreads we wouldn't see so much rubber debris all over the place.

I know a lot of big rigs run retreads, but I also see a lot more 18 wheeler tires blown out on the interstate than car tires.
They have more tires and drive longer and further. Shouldn't that be the expectation?

Whole lotta anecdotes so far. No links yet.
So the OTs theory is that blowouts on recapped tires > blowouts on regular tires. And that the 18 Wheeler industry is not well regulated by the government or else there would be no shredded tires on the highways.
I wonder how many responders to this thread rolled into work today on poorly balanced, bald or old tires that have exceeded their mileage limit?

I would imagine the fact each axle supports several tons of weight and the stress put on them from driving 10 hours a day and braking would mean the government has studied the impact and had regulated the industry accordingly.

They will separate just like 18-wheeler tires when the time comes. If you're cool with that, save the money. I wouldn't do it on a DD

I find it interesting you are responding to me like I am contrary to your position.

Funny you should mention that. I borrowed my mom's Explorer in high school and got a blowout while driving it. When my mom took it to get a new tire the tire guy told her I must have been driving crazy because he had never seen a tire explode like that.
She came home and gave me so much shite for "driving crazy". Never believed me that I was just driving down the interstate until the recall came out a month or two later.

No just thinking out loud that as regulated as the tractor trailer industry is.. Every state has stringent weigh stations.. That allowing the wholesale use of unsafe tires would be OK.

Aside from recycling old rubber, retread tires save North America upwards of 400 billion gallons of oil annually
I don't know much about retreads, but this stat above can not possibly be correct, can it?
400 Billion (with a B!) gallons of oil! ....saved (how does it save oil? just from the reduced production of new tires?) ... annually! .... in North America (not even worldwide) !
Really?
