Have a friend that lives in Slovenia and loves it. I need to go visit him this summer and check it out.

No. Don't bother. There's nothing available.

I live in Central Europe. Lots of positives, won’t bother listing them now.
If you’re in a risk taking mood I would look into Hungary/Croatia/Slovenia.
If the Russians don’t invade in 15-20 years you’ll be sitting pretty.

Seems to be a harsh penalty for making the wrong decision.

I knew someone in the UK who wanted to move his business from a rental building into land that he would own and build on. It took him years to find such a place esp. one that would allow him to build what he felt he needed.

Watch Jeremy Clarkson's show on his experiences with his farm and the additional layers of government interference he deals with that are all but unknown in our part of North America.

Diddly Squat Farm is not posh nor is it dull.

Tuscany is great for a week or so. But, try it for a month and come back.

For as idyllic is it appears, it’s downright boring and too sleepy.

You don't own that.

It's the King's land. You merely pay for the rights to inhabit the land.

Honestly.

Europe ain’t America, you need a visa. My SIL lived in London for 4 years and their immigration policies are a lot tighter than the loose shite here.

It’s comical when the Euros voice opinions about ICE.

A lot think they'll get out from under America's Wings, and won't have to deal with the Government anymore.

What they don't realize is that no matter where you live in the world, America views you as a taxpayer and will come for Her money.

Even renouncing your your American Citizenship won't release you from your tax obligations.

The US is one of the few, if not the only, country that does this.

You can renounce your citizenship and cut tax ties with the US. Happens often

Heading to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia this summer for a little over a month, then off to Croatia for 3 weeks, and Greece for a month. Still plotting out the itinerary so any recommendations are always appreciated for the 3 you mentioned

Ireland looks interesting as well.
one of the problems with buying land in Ireland is it all depends on who you are buying from

If you’re buying land that’s been farm land for 600 years, there will be a clause in the contract that says it still needs to be working farmland- or the government will take it.

And a few other crazy things like that.

quote:

Renouncing U.S. citizenship is an irrevocable, personal, and formal process requiring an in-person appointment with a U.S. consular officer abroad. You must sign an oath of renunciation to voluntarily give up your citizenship, often paying a $2,350 fee. This action may result in statelessness and does not waive any tax or legal obligations.

Can it happen? Sure. Doesn't always happen.

And the US Government can always decide to renege and demand you pay taxes at anytime.
