Wife and I are buying a house...closing in the coming weeks....she asked me if we should get our agent something after closing.

My response was we are giving her something it's called cash money once she gets her cut of the commissions from the seller's agent.

am I wrong here should we do a gift card for her and her husband to go eat? Or invite to take them to dinner with us after closing (we were friends before she helped me buy my house so not as weird as it sounds)

gay fruit basket or something?

IDK here, what say the OT crew?

Is there a unwritten rule here?

no, I don't tip at Sonic BTW

yeah

it's called commission

and porn has taught me that you and your wife get to have relations with her

also, congrats on marrying a woman that is pretty clueless about money

You mean other than the money you're already paying them?

Mine brought my wife and I to lunch ......as she should have. She had just earned a FAT commission.

Usually it's the other way around. The agent gets the commission, and the agent gets you your first housewarming gift.

They get a commission.

If they’re good enough, they get more business from word of mouth from you talking to your friends.

These things aren't that hard. You paid for the service at an agreed up amount. If you feel the agent went above and beyond the agreed service, compensate them with a dinner or whatever you want to.

Typically the agent gets you something not the other way around.

Actually, it's common for the agent to give YOU a house warming gift. You're giving the agent a commission, so no need to give them something, unless they're doing it for free or something.

They usually give you a gift for sending them the business (and huge commission check). Not the other way around.

Were you planning on giving the closing attorney a gift as well?

If anything they should be giving you a present to try to gain repeat business and get a strong reputation as a realtor

Bought three houses, have never given our realtors gifts. They've always given us a little something though.
