they left out the part that the hispanics applying make 5 dollars an hour picking strawberries and the black and white people applying; have credit scores of 485.

The article posted leaves a lot of variables out. One off the top of my head would be the applications themselves. I never even tried to buy a house until I knew I could. Maybe Blacks and Hispanics "Jump the Gun" so to speak when it comes to applying for mortgages. Also, Income and Credit Scores are nowhere on that article. It's like they went to Zillow and ran the search just on race.

Oh CNN, muckraking for minorities since 1994.

Stop making it about race. It is about having trash credit.

This explains so much, I wondered how I was able to buy a decent home with a 300 credit score.

But come to think of it, I do remember the finance guy writing "WHITE" across the top of my paperwork.

If you don't use any type of credit for extended times it can become low.

I find it hard to believe he doesn't have cable/internet or a cellphone. Then again that could be picked up by his "company" so who knows.

For a every day person a zero credit rating is hard to do.

I know, I was debt free for about 10 yrs and bought everything cash when I was younger and my score was in the absolute shitter. I built it up since then because I got to the point of wanting to buy a house, nicer car etc. High credit scores have nothing to do with how much money you have, just means you are good at paying off debts. People for some reason think high scores mean you have a ton of money. Hell, my son has a higher score than I do because I set him up like that from an early age and he doesn't make jack shite.

There is subtle discrimination in the housing market. There's no doubt about it.

It's been proven time and time again experimentally.

Kevin Boyle wrote a book that covered some of the history -- Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights, and Murder in the Jazz Age -- focusing on Dr. Ossian Sweet, who moved into a white neighborhood in Detroit in the 1920s, and was subsequently attacked by hundreds of white residents for racist and economic reasons (property value).

Wait a second. Because a black person moved into a white neighborhood in the 1920's housing discrimination is alive and well?

I don't even know what you're trying to say here. Of course, the situation has improved, but subtle discrimination does still exist.

There is a history to it. Boyle wrote a book that focuses on a notable event in that history.

It's also easier if you have a job, but that's not racist.

You linked a book on Amazon and made a statement about racism in the 1920's.

Bottom line: credit scores, income verification, and debt to income ratios aren't racist.

The book focuses on that event, but also springboards into current (at the time it was written) housing segregation.

Also, as I already said (which you ignored), that event was not just about racism.

So before performing a search of MLS listings, they ask for your race?
