I drive til they die. Have a 4Runner that I plan to pass down to my oldest in 11 years.
I keep my trucks a little longer but I keep getting the wife a new one because when it starts to show it's age I'll be the one having to have get it to and from the shop, find her alternate transportation, etc.

They have a 100000k mile warranty, which is almost double honda. From what I've read there aren't any glaring issues with the Carnival and they ranked great in crash tests.
I like their safety suite better too. I don't so much care how it looks...I just so happen to really like that suburban styling with minivan room.
It's the adaptability that gets me. I could go from hauling 8 people and STILL having room for cargo, to hauling sheets of plywood in a matter of minutes. Damn things are versatile as hell.

Their price point is a lot better that’s for sure. Toyota is proud of the Sienna’s.

Second the Carnival. Just got the wife one actually, and we already had a Telluride. Lot of people in these threads still flashing their ignorance on Kia like it's still 2005. They've come a long way. Toyota/Honda used to be "unreliable" in the 80s, but look at them now. Kia has made great improvements, but you still get the discount because people don't believe they've made that leap yet in reputation. Check consumer reports and any other ranking site. Telluride and Carnival have dominated their class category for as long as they've been in existence.
They offer a 5 year/60k mile manufacturer warranty on everything, + 10 year/100k mile warranty on powertrain. And a lot of the dealers tack more onto it. Grabbed one from the new Covington dealer and they offer lifetime powertrain warranty + lifetime free oil changes.
Wife loves her Carnival so far. We took it on a trip already and it was really great to drive. We got the hybrid and we got almost 36 mpg for the whole trip.

Had an Acadia... it was a 2012, and it was an awful vehicle. Replaced the AC compressor twice, the transmission once, had issues with the steering rack as well. It also had numerous issues with fuses constantly needing replacement. Most of this occurred before the factory warranty had expired. I drove the thing less than 10 years which is really rare for me. It wasjust uncanny what an awful vehicle it was for us.
In fact every GM vehicle I have owned has had significant mechanical problems. Replaced a transmission on my 2017 Suburban The Suburban had numerous issues with AC, torque convertor, shifter cable and starter, so much so that I was thankful when it got totaled in accident. I replaced the Suburban with a 2021 Yukon XL, and be damned if I didnt learn my lesson. The thing needed a new transmission before it needed an oil change. We are kind of stuck with Yukon, but I bought a 4 Runner for my wife, and we havent had to do anything but change oil so far.

Yeah. I was a Toyota man for a long time. Loved every Toyota I've had.
But...they've priced me out. I can get just as much and more with the carnival, in a style I prefer, with more safety tech, for a better price.
It's edged out the sienna. Just pound for pound better value with a better warranty.

We took a look at the Carnivals and damn they are nice. Wife is at the dealership now finalizing the paperwork for one. Didn't think a minivan could be cool but that thing isn't your mom's minivan of old. I feel like I'm in a space ship with all the tech and it spacious as hell.

I was just in a similar situation. After all the research and test driving we went with a Honda Pilot. Was perfect for our needs and sounds like your needs as well. Reliable (currently lifetime powertrain warranty special), so much interior space and practicality for families, easy to maintain myself, and might drive the best in its class of vehicle.

Once you let yourself experience one you'll realize how wrong you were. They are awesome.

Had a 2024 Acadia for a week as a rental back in March and I was happy with it. It was surprisingly spacious and comfortable. Plenty of cargo room and definitely big enough for 2 car seats and a stroller. The turbo 4 cyl engine was a little "buzzy" and sounded like a honda accord but it had decent enough power and acceleration. As long as you don't need to tow anything it should be fine. I don't think they have any other engine options.

Get a Mazda C5 or C50.
I had a Terrain for a while and as much as I maintained it, it had engine problems. I would not but anything GM

My wife has 2015 GMC Acadia….She currently has 150,000 miles on other than regular maintenance, we have zero issues with it. She will probably buy another Acadia when that time comes

My niece was looking at a GMC Acadia, I told her to look at the Toyota or Hondas. She bought the GMC for the extra bells and whistles, along with the price. Not long after driving down for a birthday party, they arrive with the car making a funny noise, it had just came out the shop. About a year later she called, explaining her new problem. I called a mechanic I know real well, told him the problem, he said, gunk and wash the motor, drive it and trade it in. I told her what to do, then asked if she was buying another GMC, oh hell no, she bought a Honda.

This thread made me start looking into it, and y'all've started to convince me on the Kia. Admittedly, I'm one of those who's stuck in the Kia perception of 20 years ago.
Wife wants to go Sienna, but I'm going to require we test drive a Carnival as well.

I’d hardly call that a study in long term reliability.
Get back with us when you talk to some folks with Kia’s with more than 100k miles or 7-10 years old.

Oprah promoted the car for Gm..remember? Reason enough for me not to buy one sienna and highlander assembly in USA and qualify for new interest deduction
