This. They have come a long way from when they were first brought over to the US.
TBH most cars are so much better now it's not funny. Nobody really makes a complete shitbox that will fall apart in 50k miles anymore.

so I don't give a damn about resale value.
That's fine. It will serve it's purpose. I agree. My original issue was that it out performs some legit names and was it worth it, being a KIA. I have not owned one. From what I've read, they aren't bad.

This is bullshite and goes to show what marketing and some redesigned body lines can do.
Kia/Hyundai motors are shite, including the 11/12/13+ redesigned models. The engines sludge at a ridiculous rate and the GDI engines are noisy as frick and most rattle after 80k miles.
In addition, there is a recall on 1.4 MILLION new body style Hyundais/Kias for metal shavings in the block that cause catastrophic engine failure.
Car and driver
To top it off, Kia/Hyundai are underselling the issue and probably need to recall a few more million off the street.
So go ahead and buy one, they sure are cheap at least.

I have a Hyundai. Had an Accord before. It’s just as good to me. Just passed 60k. I’ll be sure to let you know if I have those issues.

Watch it with all those facts. Idiots with downvotes incoming.

Don't know why you're being down-voted for that statement. Kia is trashy.

I clicked on this thread expecting a sniper report on bagging an ISIS child soldier or something similar. “Of course it’s awful, but it’s still a K.I.A.”

Got the wife a 2015 Optima SXL Turbo, it was fun as hell in performance mode good gas mileage as well. She now has a 2018 SXL Turbo. So far no problems with either car.

Your statement here is bullshite.

This is based on what evidence? GDI engines across the board do have some issues, but it's not all these makers offer. In fact, cars like the Forte/Elantra are some of the few that haven't moved over to the shitty CVT tranny, and instead are equipped with a 6-speed and have an available Atkinson-cycle engine which will hum along without any trouble just nicely.

All makes end up with major recalls at some point or another. Toyota had it's acceleration issue, and even Honda recalled 2.1 MILLION vehicles just last year over a fire hazard.
These things happen and they are being addressed. I received three notices about the metal shaving issue at the end of last year for a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport that I don't own any longer, so they seemed to be taking it pretty seriously. Plus, they're adding to their already industry-leading warranty in order to cover potentially-related future issues for both original owners and secondary owners.

You may not even have a vehicle to which anything he says applies. I wouldn't sweat it.

Your paw paw would roll in his grave if he knew how many of those were made in Mexico. While many of your Kias are made in Alabama. Who is employing the American worker here?
