I have been pushing the use of MS Teams for years. I think it will finally “stick” and become part of our normal business practices

States make ZERO dollars from universities aside from the sales taxes collected at the nearby campus retailers.
I could see LSU offering Summer Intercession exclusively online.
Universities used to have their online “campus” separated from the physical campus (courses from one cant earn degree of other)....I see that model being replaced by a blended solution.
Elective classes online, core classes in person would have been ideal for me

Think prices for flights will slowly rise and stay higher then pre-covid19. Airlines have been retiring older planes at a rapid date during the shutdown. Even if demand come back the capacity will be lower

Zoom Meetings taking the place of in person meetings where dozens of people have to travel. Unnecessary expense.

There’s way too much money tied up in this for it go down. This will not work in inner-cities. Many families can not afford devices or reliable internet service.

College could swing it. But it wouldn’t be sustainable for families with two working parents once they’re no longer working at home.

Most brick and mortars are already doing this. Especially in graduate programs. Mine has been online this whole time, with my practicum next year. That said, I imagine there are some majors that would be incredibly tough to do all online. Especially in hands on majors with labs and the like.
They may begin to integrate more of those programs online but I can’t see them going completely online.

The service industry is going to take the biggest hit IMO.
The smaller and local restaurants will not be able to make the revenue needed. The cost of food, booze, etc. would have to adjust to reflect the the 50% decrease in customers.

As for Tele-Medicine, I think it will be more common but will not widely replace normal office visits. Currently, most insurance companies have relaxed limitations and allowed providers to bill normal office visit rates for telemedicine. That will stop at some point and providers will move back to on site visits.
I do think business travel will decline - there will be a permanent shift to remote/digital interaction as much as possible.
Finally, I think the concert/music festival industry will be interesting to watch. I think it will take a long time for that to return to normal, if it ever does.

We've had this technology for over a decade at this point. It's gotten better but it's odd to me that it's just now being widely adopted.

Too many older individuals in the workforce still are uncomfortable with technology and prefer the feeling of teams around the table- 1990's style. Hopefully, they will leave the workforce in frustration as they should, and open up jobs for younger workers that desperately need them. This is not meant to offend anyone, so if it does I am sorry. My son has several older professors at LSU who were so frustrated by going online that they refused to teach the class for the remainder of the semester, essentially my son is "on his own".
I think this will make a lot of companies realize that offices are not as necessary as they thought, and perhaps they will pass the savings onto the employees as raises that are desperately needed.
