Bunch of corporate drones up in here. If I save the company a nights hotel and per Diem to fly home late don't look for me before noon unless there is something critical. Can I be there at 0800? Yes I can but I don't want to be and your boss should recognize that.

I'm kind of a one man army in my department, it's still in the development stages so it's extremely rare for me to not go in. If you have the opportunity though going in late would be my choice

I scheduled some training last week for a few weeks down the road. Flying out on Sunday (on my time) and the late flight after training during the week would have put me landing at 12:30 AM.... So I scheduled a reasonable morning flight and will head to the office after lunch.

depends really on what I have to do the next day...I would typically go in when I wake up and get ready, but wouldn't pay much attention to the alarm.

D. Work from home when I get up. Don't set alarm. Just get up and log in. If I have an early meeting next morning, I typically reschedule or decline. If I can't, I just deal with it.

Get off your arse and go in at your regular time. Unless it doesn't matter if you're there on time, by which I'd worry how important you are at that point. LOL at some of the lazy arse advice in this thread.

LOL at thinking that needing to be in at exactly 0800 every day means that you're important. We aren't talking about shift work.

If you're worth your weight in salt, then your boss won't mind if you work from home the next day.

Whatever happened to going above and beyond. Increasing your value and respect with your company and co-workers? Why be the guy that takes all of his 15 vacation days and 5 sick days a year? Why clock in at opening and break the door down at 5? Why take your full hour for lunch? Why not be a team player? This thread is what is wrong with this country's work force and why jobs are outsourced overseas.

This. I pretty much do this every week. Travel. Take a late flight work the day after from whether that's Thurs. or Fri. Works out ok. I'll go in Friday if the home day is Thursday.

Why work all the time? You want him to work 7 days a week? He already left on Sunday which is a family day for most people whether you are religious or not at all, and furthermore he already missed 4 nights with his kids. So frankly he put in well over 50 hours in 4 days, anytime I'm "working" when I'd be with my kids instead is work whether I'm traveling or whatever.

To answer the OP if I leave on a Sunday and get home late I'd stop by the office if I needed to, otherwise I'd answer any necessary emails from home, make any phone calls that are needed, and take the day off unless there was something that had to be done.

Are you 75 years old and still working? Get with the times man! Maybe try working for a modern company....

Well, this has absolutely nothing to do with time and everything to do with effort, but in modern companies you're probably available 16-20 hours of the day and answering emails/solving problems when you need, regardless of your "office time."

Why work for a company that makes you track vacation at all? I can take what I want, when I want, when I need and they trust me to get my work done and not to take advantage of the system.

Why clock in at all? I usually go in before everyone. Leave early, grab an afternoon workout, then get right back to work while I'm cooling off. Why not work for someone who sees life as flexible and not rigid?

Why not be a team player?

My team can reach me 24 hours a day

This post is exactly what's wrong with old companies and traditionalists. Like your work, put in the effort, find a good work/life balance. You don't have to work 14 hours a day every day, tracking your hours, and having bosses micromanager you to make a difference. And actually, they micro-manage you and track your hours because they don't trust you, fwiw. With today's technology, I can craft the work week how I want it, because no week is the same as the last. And I can work for a company that trusts me to do just that.

THAT'S a good environment. Flexibility on the job =/= no effort, no respect, and no value, it actually means you are valued way more. And trusted.

I don't take the late flight and stay an extra night. Get up and leave the next morning.
