These ravines like these I've seen around the state, at most, are guarded at the top by a flimsy chain link fence. They should have sturdy barriers in place.

The thing that pisses me off is that the driver literally had one job, which was to stay awake through their shift. That being said, prayers to all those involved. I can't imaging the pain of the family of those kids. This hits especially close to home as I chaperoned a very similar trip to Disney just last month.

Don't rule out a medical emergency before you deem this as him falling asleep or texting. I'm not saying it wasn't sleep but we still don't know

The fact that there is a slight angle and not a straight drop-off to this thing likely saved a bunch of lives.

Still scary as hell. Doesn't look like much upon approach...

Every year, my wife (no pics) accompanies a school trip to Disney for a week. They leave around 7 am on a Sunday, get there that evening, and leave Orlando around 7 am the following Saturday and get back later that evening.

They drive from NOLA to Mobile, change drivers in Mobile, then that driver stays with them the entire week. Headed home, again, they stop in Mobile, and another driver gets on for the last leg home.

Point being, I think they stop in Mobile because the time/distance from Mobile - Orlando is about as long as they can legally drive in a day. If this was a similar situation, the driver was very close to the end of their shift. I wonder if they left Orlando last night and were planning on driving straight through with a stop to change drivers.
