What if all these years we’ve been paying for plain burgers and the toppings were thrown in for free?

It really would explain a lot.

Just did some research.

I can get a 25 pound box of Roma tomatoes for $15.

There are about 4 Roma tomatoes per pound. That’s 100 tomatoes.

That’s 15 cents per tomato.

If you slice the tomatoes into 15 slices, that’s 1 cent per slice.

So if you assume only a cent or two per slice of veggie, you’re talking less than 10 cents.

I know but I can only find prices for Roma tomatoes for some reason.

Even if you used larger tomatoes at 50 per box, and 15 slices, that’s 2 cents per slice.

You call that cheese?

Having worked at a pizza place in college, i can say that cheese is the most expensive topping on a pizza.. but most fast food places use that nasty ‘American cheese’ crap (which is why i never order cheese on fast food stuff).. i cant think a slice of American cheese would cost more than a couple cents, if that.. they’re basically just gouging the customer I’d they charge extra for that stuff.. but hey, it’s a free country, i guess either pay it or dont.

Because they don't want to make a menu as followed:

Fully loaded burger $3.99
Burger with no lettuce $3.96
Burger with no tomatoes $3.95
Fully loaded cheese burger $4.50
cheese burger with extra cheese, no lettuce $4:96

This is the correct answer.

And the person noting a few posts down from this that it actually costs money to remove items is correct also. You can break down man hours into man minutes and man seconds. Notice I didn't say it cost MORE money to remove the items, but that it does actually incur a cost.

I know that we are talking pennies here, but if you have served millions of customers, it does add up.

Why do you pay the same amount for a hamburger if you get it fully loaded with Onions/lettuce/pickles/tomato...............than if you take ALL that off and get it plain?

This is a question that has plagued mankind since Adam & Eve.
