After having a soil-boring test done, who is the correct person to contact about what types of foundation (pilings, retaining wall, etc...) are possible for the land? Is it a land surveyor, engineer, architect??

Land surveyor and check with local government to see what is allowed.

I assume you're having the borings done by a geotechnical engineer, they should make recommendations in their report.

A general contractor can't tell you that? We built on a slope, went with a walk in basement, concrete walls on 3 sides.

You'll likely need the services of all three when it's all said and done, but specifically regarding the foundation, I'd go with a civil engineer.

I would not have the GC designing the foundations, unless they have a licensed engineer on staff.

Pretty much every house in north GA is built on a slope, and it's apparently not a big deal for them.

GC's aren't in the business of practicing engineering last I checked.

Last I checked this was still America. Build whatever you want. Obama isn't president anymore.

Let me guess, your job as a CPA has you doing investigations into design flaws. Tell me about all these frickups you've seen.

Most of the litigation involved on the projects we audited were fault of the engineering
Sorry my anecdotal experience bothers you?

My BIL has clients in o&G and sports. He doesn't claim to know shite about those industries.
You don't have to be an expert on everything.

I did. You basically went against my take just because you may have some extremely limited insight. Maybe you should just defer for once.
