Doing the job properly and doing the job as you are forced to are two very different things. I'll bet that is one of the major factors why Murphy is stepping away.

Unfortunately he is staying until Sharon Westin Broomes term is over. Guess he realizes his safety blanket will be gone at that point.
Really? I assumed he would no longer be the chief when she is done anyway. Its probably the best thing, she doesn't need to appoint anyone for anything..

As bad as he is, you can count on his replacement being worse.

The NAACP issued the following statement regarding the resignation:
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) today expresses its deep appreciation for the outstanding service of Baton Rouge Police Department Chief Murphy Paul. Chief Paul‘s resignation marks the end of an extraordinary five-and-a-half years of transformative leadership.
Chief Paul's tenure witnessed significant contributions to the community and the police department, setting a precedent for the future of Baton Rouge. His efforts have been instrumental in making monumental transformations in law enforcement standards and modernizing our department with 21st-century practices.
In the face of adversity, Chief Paul guided the Baton Rouge Police Department with unwavering resolve and dedication. His commitment to equality and justice mirrored the values of the NAACP and marked a meaningful stride toward a more inclusive law enforcement environment.
As we bid farewell to Chief Murphy Paul, the NAACP extends its heartfelt gratitude for his remarkable service and visionary leadership.

Sharon Douglas who was a finalist was one of the most impressive women I've ever personally met. How she didn't get the job I'll never know. She would have been a huge asset to Baton Rouge but she would have had a lot of power which is something Broome didn't want in another woman.

Paul did nothing but make speeches and watch the city sink.

He also illegally fired the Sterling cops, which resulted in a massive lawsuit that the city had to settle.
That in turn shite the bed with the officer union.

She was not a finalist.
The final 5 were:
Murphy Paul
Myron Daniels
Robert McGarner
Darryl Honore
Ronald Stevens
Douglas will be a finalist this time if she applies for the position

Yes, we set homicide records almost every year.

That’s why law abiding citizens are concerned.

Truly remarkable. BR as a city witnessed an explosion in gang violence, drug over doses, and suffered through a big decline of the force.
No one is working together. The cops, the judges and the DA all have their own agendas. The bad guys know this and even when they are caught they are turned loose with hardly anyone caring about where they go or what they do.

My bad. I would have no issue supporting her. Her work ethic around me was beyond what I've ever seen in a person.

Notice how not a single fact or statistic was mentioned about his job performance or how his efforts reduced crime. Just a bunch of meaningless mumbo jumbo.

Which is in keeping with his performance, in multiple ways.

They need a chief that will motivate the officers and set the tone for the dept in a positive manner.
LeDuff, I met him and the swat guys he worked with. The guys I met were pretty good leaders.
What they will get is another political hack!!

Pay Baton Rouge police what they deserve since they put up with the dregs of this city. There is no reason for them to make $10,000 less than an NOPD officer after one year on the job. If you want quality officers, you have to attract quality applicants. Nobody wants to police this shithole for $49,000 a year.
NOPD's website states:
BRPD's website states:

The salary for Recruit candidates starts at $42,449 and rises to $59,014 per year ($61,014 per year with a qualified Bachelor’s degree) after one year of service with additional incentive payments for bilingual officers, college degrees, merit pay, etc.
BRPD's website states:
quote:
Base starting salary while in the academy $40,906 – annually
After six months from the date of hire (3% merit increase) $42,134 – annually
After one year from the date of hire (3% merit increase) $43,398 – annually
After one year from the date of hire (State Supplemental Pay) $6,000 – annually
$49,398 – after one year

The next chief will make you want Murphy Paul back. It's going to be. Terrible.

It would take someone interested in making life a living Hell for the criminal element- NOT someone who willingly lowers behavioral expectations for the local population. That's a major problem in this town- and it f**king shows.
In short, we need a real hard arse who will deliver the goods- and doesn't care who gets pissed off in the process.
We won't get that under this major flop of a Mayor only interested in her own reelection.
