(Before you’re say I’m conflating state with city statistics, note Illinois has 12 million people and 5 million live in the Chicagoland area.)
I'm glad you said it so I didn't have to. Even city-wide data sucks for crime statistics.

Actually, let me first issue a correction, it’s 9 million people in the Chicagoland area and 2.5 million in the city proper. So, we’re talking like somewhere between 20 percent and 75 percent of the state clustered in one area. So the state and city are inextricably linked by the fact that city stats would hugely affect state stats.

But if you must have a Chicago specific statistic, here it is, according to this Chicago’s gun homicide rate is 25 per 100,000 in 2021, which is still below Baton Rouge, NOLA, Memphis, and Albany, Georgia to name a few.

This is the totem around which the media will dance and twirl. It will be used to make Joe Biden look like the Prophet Ezekiel having recently denounced MAGA as the great radicalizer.

Little doubt they will say MAGA was the motivation for this insane murdering freak.

Unbelievable timing of this evil clown’s spree.

If you want to argue that Chicago cooks their books fine. You don’t even have to provide any evidence. I’ll accept it. But I’m pretty sure that NOLA, Jackson Miss, and Memphis also cook their books as well. My guess is that the statistics noise cancels out and you’re probably still left with Chicago ranking lower than those cities on a per capita basis.

I would say Twitter should block that video to preserve his right to non-prejudicial jury...but he’s the dumbass who live-streamed it on Twitch and wrote and signed a manifesto...so frick him.

Gf found it in the comments after searching the shooting on there. shite was horrible as expected. At one point he’s standing over a black woman that he’s shot and killed and reloads his gun then puts a round in her head.

Also he aims his gun at a white guy that’s laying down at the check out that screams “Nooo” and the shooter says he’s sorry and walks past him.

What if we went back to that and allowed individual states their leeway on the issue. We’d probably see near universal bans in Vermont and Oregon or wherever and almost no bans in Mississippi or Alabama.

All 50 states have a verion of the 2nd Amendment in their constitutions, many far more explicit in their codifying the individual right to firearms than the 2nd Amendment.

How about no, dumbass.

I found it on 4chan. It’s hard to watch but I think it’s important to study stuff like this so you can be prepared if you’re ever in this situation. The only chance people had was to run. Most of the people outside the store froze after the first shots and became victims. The one guy that ran wasn’t shot.

Fine. To me if it’s codified in the state Constitutions themselves, that’s open and shut.

What I’m arguing is give the gun control advocates the Avenue of pursuing their cause in their own respective state instead of trying to pass a one-size-fits-all federal law.

Edit: They probably still won’t succeed, but the political calculus becomes less about who wins the day for the blanket federal law that satisfies only some at the expense of others and more about, “Hey, they banned guns in Vermont, but at least we don’t live in Vermont.”
